Need Help With Mods:

I want to put my 02 SS deep into the 12's. What mods should I do? It is bone stock right now, I have no idea what the car runs. What mods should I do to achieve this goal and what brand names make the best numbers?

Re: Need Help With Mods:

First off can you give us some more info on your car? You said bone stock correct? 6spd or auto? First we'd recomend a full tuneup, then exhaust and from there possibly gears in your rear. Give us some more info though so we can get a little more detailed.

Re: Need Help With Mods:

with good traction and a skilled driver some of the 01/02 LS1 cars were hitting high 12s bone stock.

so i would say your first step is traction mods

lower control arms, tires and a poly torque arm bushing to keep the wheelhop to a minimum. maybe add some relocation brackets in there for a little more bite.

beyond that the simple bolt ons should help you

lid, headers and a good catback will probably acheive your goal. beyond that i would say some gears. 3.73s if you still want some decent highway milage and 4.10s if you don't care much.

Re: Need Help With Mods:

Still need some more info. There are different ways to get to low 12's. Some drag radials and nitrous would get you there quick and relatively cheap. But if you don't want to use nitrous then let us know and we can come up with a different path based on your wants and budget.

Re: Need Help With Mods:

Lid,
Catback,
4.10 gears,
LT headers with ORY

That right there is good for low 12's (maybe even high 11's) in a M6. But traction will not your friend so some suspension upgrades and Drag Radials may be needed. That leads to yet another problem. If you are going to launch that thing hard then the 10 bolt rearend won't last. You'll need to upgrade to a 12 bolt or 9" rearend which unfortunately runs 2K+ brand new.

Good luck and grats on the ride!

You'd buy the new rear end with the 4.10 gears by the way. Problem is, you'll loose some mileage with such tall gears, which is less of an issue on an M6.

True but only if you bought the rearend first. Unfortunately the cost gets many people to buy the gears alone and then they end up buying the rearend after the 10 bolt breaks. From what I hear 4.10's are the only way to go with a M6 and 3.73's for the A4's. Both cars will lose mileage but then again we didn't buy these cars for the gas mileage

Unless we were driving a gas guzzling SUV before.

I have gained.... .5 MPG in city driving. Much more in highway though.

You got that right. I actually like the mileage these things get even when modded. My daily driver is an 5000 lb. 93 Dodge Van with a gas guzzling V8. I use it alot to transport carpet so I'm lucky to get 12 mpg out of that pig. It takes almost sixty bucks to fill it and a tank sure don't last long. The Formula on the other hand takes about thirty to fill it and it lasts alot longer
