Need help, blowing the ign 50 maxi amp fuse all the time

This is on my brothers 99 Ls1 camaro and he keeps on blowing the red maxi 50 amp ign fuse all the time when he turns the ign key to try to start the car. What would cause this fuse to blow out all the time? I don't know where to start and look. He has a viper remote start and alarm system and I am thinking maybe this has to do something with blowing the 50 amp ign fuse all the time when trying to start the car..any ideas what the problem could be?

That's a lot of possible causes! I would start the narrowing process by disconnecting the remote start and alarm.

yeah, you need to look at what all is on the circuit to see what the possiblities are that could cause it. start by disconecting the alarm module, and pull the fuses that are inline before the alarm box under the dash. what ever is shorted, it has to be after the ign. sw. in the circuit if it doesnt blow until switching on the car. under the steering colum, there are a number of 10 gauge wires that go into the column. at the base. this is most likely where the alarm is tapped into, and where you should temp. cut the added wires. the switched side is the 10 ga. (thick wire) that is pink. the red wires (most of them, but not all) should be batt. power that will have power all the time. there is also a thick (10 ga.) brown wire that is after the ign. sw.. look around under the drivers knee bollster and around the steering column for wires that are cut/chaffed and could be shorted to ground ( something steel like the dash frame)

And check for wires from or to the alarm/remote starter that run thru the firewall. Maybe they didn't install a grommet to protect the wires.

the remote starter "should" be part of the alarm box, or sometimes an add on box but it would be next to the alarm in that case. if the thick Yellow wire is cut in half and is connected to the box /wires, then it has either remote start, and/or an ign. interupt switch built in it. but Al brought up a great idea. look for wires that could be run through the firewall that poss. didnt get the grommet they needed to protect them from cutting into the wire.

There should be a diagram for a 99 & F car there, look at it & see if it helps. But if I had a dollar for every time I've seen an alarm F-up a car.....
