You said you have stock gears, but there were two different ratios available from the factory. If you both have 2.73's or the 3.23's, then your lead is driver skill/error based. Like I said, run him to 150 and then compare notes.... if you are still ahead, i would have both cars dynoed... yours would dyno esp high, or his esp low. A 99 A4 car should dyno 280 peak at the rear wheels... yours has 275 peak at the flywheel.
LT1 vs LS1 threads make baby jesus cry
for my opinion, I love the LT1, I like having an iron block if you want to run real power through it, I like the sound, and I like beating people who think their engine is an edict from god.
Both engines are great, just some of the people's attitudes towards them could stand to change
Ive never had problems with these 'crazy top end cars' , if anything its all been in the launch. mods are mods, they change everything

ok i have put my z up against 01 cobra and stood side by side pretty much till 95 then he started to pull away like crazy so i let off the gas. the reason i say this is maybe my car had somthing done to it b4 i bought it, but u could not tell if there was just by looking at it. and from what i know the ls1 z and the cobra are in the same class. not sure on that, so dont quote.

I would take a LS1 WS6, though. But I'm only 18, so I'm not complaining what I drive.
And the LT1 is by far not a "crappy engine"

The LS1 found in the f-bodies and vettes has always been an aluminum block and aluminum heads engine. I think the LS1 in the new GTO with be the same.
The LT1 found in 93-97 f-bodies and 92-96 vettes is an iron block with aluminun heads.
The LT1 found in the following cars is an iron block and iron heads engine: 94-96 Impala SS
94-96 Roadmaster sedan
94-96 Caprice Wagon
94-96 Roadmaster Wagon
94-96 Cadillac Fleetwood
94-96 Caprice sedan with the towing package
94-96 Caprice cop cars with LT1 option
