No Flowmaster, anything else should be fine.

A few months ago I sold my 95 v6 Camaro for a 01 SS and yes it is amazing how much faster the car is. I love every minute I am in the car and I am sure you will too. Most people start out with the lid and catback. The stock exhaust may be better than the Flowmaster, most people here do not like it because it supposedly robs hp. If your looking for sound like me get the Flowmaster because my friends 99 SS sound sweeeeeeet. Borla or GMMG are loud and better flowing, but I feel that the Flowmaster has a more muscular tone not just loud. Congrats and enjoy the speed.

Thumbs up

Congrats on your purchase.

About Flowmaster: http://web.camaross.com/forums/showt...hreadid=209481

Read a few pages and do some searches and most of your questions will be answered.

Regarding the exhaust, I'm very happy the way mine is set up: Flowmaster muffler, cutout w/electric plate (for convenience).

All that for less than 250 bucks installed. With the cutout closed it sounds a lot better than stock. With the cutout open... Well, it's just !!! Power gains should be at least equal to, if not even better than, most of the catbacks which all cost a whole lot more.

There are many differences between the LT1 and LS1, but I guess the main differences are that the LS1 is all-aluminum and has coil-on-plug ignition.

ls1 and lt1 are totally different (which i guess is the reason ls1 is gen 3 and lt1 is gen 2)
well, lt1 has iron block aluminum heads while ls1 has alum block and heads
lt1 has reverse cooling and the optispark (opti for distributorless system)
and besides the fact, ls1 is a 346
i think it's standard bore size of a 350 but they did something to make it 346
and like 95GRNZ said, a coil-on plug ignition type system

Yep, LS1's cars are pretty amazing.

LT1 vs LS1? Well, the LT1 is still based off the old SBC, but has a few minor differences (such as reverse cooling) and is classed as a Gen-II SBC. LS1's (Gen-III) are totally different than any other SBC. The block and heads are all aluminum to start with. They use 6-bolt mains for the crank (4 bolts in from the bottom, 2 in from the sides). The heads are completely redesigned from traditional SBC heads................the valve arrangement is different, and they outflow LT1 heads by leaps and bounds..........basically, they are probably the #1 reason that LS1's pull so much harder up top than LT1's do. The intake is a little different as well, and the individual coil-pack ignition system is a very good setup.

As for exhaust, I have the Flowmaster cat back and love it. It sounds great IMO..............nice quality sound, but not too loud. I DO NOT believe that it robs power over the factory system (going from 2-3/4" pipes to 3" pipes, I just don't see it ) but compared to other aftermarket systems, it may not be the best for power. Lately I've been hearing a lot about Magnaflow exhausts, and they are supposed to sound good AND perform better than Flowmasters.................just some food for thought.

Have fun and good luck with your car!

Gen-I and Gen-II SBC's (including LT1's) are 4.00" bore, 3.48" stroke.

Gen-III LS1 uses a 3.9" bore and a 3.62" stroke.

but we don't have the low end torque like they do, nor do they have the piston slap problem.

just playing devils advocate.
