mustang dyno seems low!!!

Hello, new member with 2000 pewter z28 awesome ls1 engine with LS1 hotcam, performance lid, B&B exhaust, 2800 stall, and good lap-top tune from Rob Raymer. We put down 345 to the ground which I thought was low. We also put 3750 in for weight with driver. My car is a fully loaded A4 with T-tops. What would the dyno-jet say..... Are my numbers low????
12.7 quarter, 8.3 in the eighth, 0-60 in 4.3 so far!

All I have is a slp lid flowmaster cat back and 3000 stall and I ran a 12.6 in the 1/4 and 8.0 in the 1/8 on street tires, what kind of tires are you runnin on? i ran on Khumo 712's and the are crap on the street but on the track they are excellent if you just clean them off for a few seconds.

Re: mustang dyno seems low!!!

First of all, Mustang dynos are (almost?) always lower. There are many differences between (for example) a Mustang dyno and a Dynojet.

Second, I might be coming from a biased direction, but I think that is a bit low personally.

My car recently dyno'd at 349 to the tire on a Mustang dyno and a mild tune. My car was always on the slightly high side, though. All my mods are here:
http://www.phantomss.com/camaro/
but my only "real" mod is QTP long tubes an Y-pipe with no cats.

However, your track numbers do not lie and seem to be within a decent range. What is your best MPH in the 1/4?

Sounds about right for an auto on a Mustang dyno.

Re: mustang dyno seems low!!!

Hey, I have a 2002 SS LS1. I had it tuned on a mustang dyno. I have a Stage 3 cam and and heads from Patriot and I only had 365 to the wheels on it. Anyway Livernois said I would get about 17% higher number on Dynojet. Not that it would make a difference.
I run 12.2 in 1/4 mile.

Re: mustang dyno seems low!!!

The highest ive ever seen a head, cam, intake, exhuast ls1 only on a mustang dyno and the numbers be correct was 402rwhp. Keep that in mind when talking mustang dyno

Also having run a mustang dyno before, dynojet numbers are usually 8%-13% higher on average.

I ran my '69 Camaro on a Mustang dyno and only did about the same as your car, but yet it runs deep in the 11's. Don't worry about the dyno numbers, just concentrate on how it runs at the track.

Re: mustang dyno seems low!!!

Wouldn't an upgrade to the intake manifold help in this scenario. I don't know if you are maxing that one out. But as I understand it 2001-2002 intake manifold were revised resulting in an increase of 10hp. If it helps stock, wouldn't it help a cammed car?

Keep in mind, I don't own nor have I tuned an LS1. Just a guess

Re: mustang dyno seems low!!!

yeah the ls6 intake will yeid even more power on a cammed ls1 since the cam he has requires more air....

Re: mustang dyno seems low!!!

exactly, the LS6 (and also the bigger FAST LSx) really start to shine in the higher rpm range, where the stock ls1 intake falls off.

so the LS6 intake will definatly benefit any motor, even stock. but it will help more on a cammed motor.

if you go real big on the h/c you would probably pick up enough gains from the bigger LSx intake to warrent the added cost.
