Money to spend?

Okay what would I be better off doing. Heads cam or build a stroker. Which would get me better power for the dollar?

Are you thinking of a stroker with the stock heads and cam? That would be a waste.

Thumbs up

Stroker w/heads and cam would be the best choice, of course. Very expensive, though...

Latest CHP is full of LS1 stuff and there's an article about building a 383 making 550rwhp.

Also, are you running a stock converter? At least you don't list anything in your sig. A higher stall might be a good idea, too.

If I were to do a stroker I would do a heads cam as well. Sorry If I wasnt clear. The choices are just heads cam or stroker with heads cam. Just wondering how much a stroker w/ heads cam and a forged bottom endcosts to keep the motor from blowing from too much power.

People have taken the stock bottom end to 5-600 rwhp with heads and cam, nitrous, or a blower. I am not saying yours isn't going to have any problems. The bottom end being a bigger bore and forged parts would have an advantage over the stock as far as hp goes. Plus it would be safe. You want to determine a power goal, and then see how your budget gets you to it. Go into ls1tech and ask what some have done to their stock shortblock

IF were givin advice why not a turbo hehe youd probably grab another 50-100ft lbs for most of the powerband...figure with an 01 though youve already got the ls6 manifold so your already one step ahead in the game...and probably dont have that many miles on your ride...so id just go with a good set of heads and a decent cam...cams come cheap enough that it would be easy later if you decided after your current motor is tired to just buy a new one...but heads if you get some really good ones that can flow a ton of a air you could just use them on a stroker later on. Reusable HP is always good hehe.

The thing with a turbo is that speed inc which is the only major shop in Illinois that works on LS1s doesnt offer one. And I have already had very bad experiences with them installing stuff that isnt bought from them cause they dont warrantgy and usually they do a bad job on stuff that isnt directly from them claiming there is nothing they can do about it. So I guess. SO UNLESS i LEARN HOW TO INSTALL A TURBO MYSLEF I think the only way to go right now is a stroker that can push 500 rwhp on motor alone with forged internals. Im already planning on putting it on the bottle. Since the car has only 17000 miles on it and will only be driven through October as my daily and go in for storage over the winter so I can save up money over the winter while driving my beater and build a project car. Thus I can have a 10 sec street car and 9 sec strip car when running the gas. But apparently it seems that I am the only one who voted for a stroker.

totally understandable...i know incon had gone out of buisness and pretty much everyone just said the hell with turbos since blowers are easier to install but turbos do make more power period. Even when their were kits out there people had tons of problems installing them, then tuning that it just made it too much of a pita but they are badass to have anywayz

Your asking if you should do either head/cam package on your stock motor or to build a stroker with good enternals and a head/ cam package. If money is'nt a concern go with the stroker/heads/cam and run high 10's. But for about half the price you could do a head/cam change on your stock bottom end and run mid 11's.I have seen a LS1 t/A run 11.3's with a head and cam package
