MO6 vs. A4 any chance for the M06??
Sure they do, but the M6 (manual 6) driver has to be very good
. When comparing 2 cars that are almost identical except for the transmission, then every pound will make a difference, traction will make a difference, and "minor" improvements in one car vs. the other will make the difference.
Even with an A4 and an M6 using the same gears (for arguments sake, 3.42's) the M6 has closer gear ratios from 1st to 4th, vs. the auto has wider ratios from 1st to 3rd, so theoretically, that's an advantage.
For consistency though, you can't beat an auto
.
BTW: what's M06??

maybe he meant m06 as in manual overdrive 6. but dat would be mod6
wouldn't it, either way he got his point across. Let me tell you man my car is a m6 and i've sat in my friends 00 z28 and it feels faster outta the hole, but lets say you are rolling, sorry if i downshift I'll blow by his any day i feel a noticeable difference. he is all stock btw. but ever since i put 3.73's
for some reason its a completely different story
I know one thing i need a new clutch badly and before with 3.42's it would be more forgiveable if you missed a gear or delayed into one, now with 373's if u miss a gear or grind or just plain f**k up, it's harder to make up for it especially if your racing another ls1 forget it

Prime example here......
My 01 SS M6 with K/N filter and free ram air mod
13.06
My buddies 02 SS A4 with K/N filter, free ram air mod, Hyper tech programming (shift points, thermo stat, ect..)
13.2x's
M6 wins hands down, but put in a 3200 stall and some drag radials and its another ball game.....

good one!!!, (r u sure) how much % of hp lost
I thought they'r same
hmm, the percentage variance is small.. you are looking at no more than 5% loss between the two..
(manual is said to have 12-15% and auto 18-20%)
as for an auto putting you to sleep.. have you driven a fast car with auto? its different.. Personally, if it werent for my LT1 having gone through 6 autos, I would of bought an auto when I got my 2002. But that wasnt the case. The auto is damn good and would snap peoples necks pretty violently when it hit.. and that was just a shift kit and altered shift points. Breaking 3rd in an auto on dry pavement really is pretty kewl when you are only showing 270rwhp and 296rwtq.. but that was my LT1.. It was faster than my 2002.. so far.. but we will see..
I am going to the track this sunday for sure to try out some drag radials.

I agree with you PSYCHOCABBAGE, both on the percentage loss (which is only a rough estimate anyway.........'cause it'll vary depending on the flywheel horsepower of an engine, but yes, autos have a slightly higher loss), and as well on the performance of automatics. While standards are certainly more fun, I think a lot of people under-estimate automatics. A guy I work with has a Ford Probe GT, and when he found out my car was an auto, he was like "oh, well then my car would probably beat your's". I was like "how do you figure?!"
His response was that autos don't rev out the same, but when I told him I can still rev to ~6000RPM, he was surprised, and said "oh, but I'd probably still give you a run"............uh, no
.
The thing with automatics is that because of their wider gear ratios, when they downshift, they start pulling from a lot lower than a standard would by jumping down a gear, but then they pull for a lot longer. And as well, they can shift a lot quicker, and you never have to plan your shifts.........just mash the pedal and hang on!!
I've never regretted buying an auto except for the occasional cruise through town, or out on the highway when there's not much traffic and I feel like "exercising" the car, but otherwise, they're just as fast, and then you can pay a little more attention on the road in front of you instead of the tach and what gear you're in (and I know it becomes second nature..........I've driven standard for a long time, but it still requires a little extra thought
).

Not only does it take more skill to drive the M6, the poor driver was given a poor excuse for a clutch and transmission to work with. I am an old man who grew up in the muscle car heyday. I have had numerous sticks over the years. 5 of my previous 7 Vettes were 4 speeds. The clutch and 6 speed synchros in my 2002 Z28 are not worthy of a Vega. Bet the odds. Put your money on the auto.
I used to have an A4, and now have an M6. They're both good IMHO but for an enjoyable daily-driven car(and not much more) you cannot beat the fun-factor of an M6. Now, if I wanted to do a lot of racing at the dragstrip, I'd go A4 all the way.
But...I bought my M6 for me, and could care-less about the "consistency" of 1/4 mile ET's that so many guys always brag about. Remember, a lot of us don't give a damn about dragracing at the track. Instead we just like to enjoy our cars around town and nothing more. In the end, it just all comes down to what your personal preference IS.
Now to which one is faster or has more advantages? There probably isn't a straight-forward answer to this and nor do I really care.
