Dumb headlight question
Dumb headlight question
Just got my 99 z28 and I have a dumb question, what is with the headlight switch? It has 3 settings and the lights come on when the car is started and stay the same no matter which position I have the switch? I am assuming that they are daytime running lights or there is a short somewhere. Someone please help me with this, it's really pissing me off!! If I put the lswitch in the far left position the lights will shut off when the car is off, the other two will keep the lights on so I am assuming the postions are off--parking lights--head lights on. But why have 3 positions when the light brightness doesn't change? Is there anyway to eliminate the daytime running lights, maybe a relay jumper or something?
Isn't it just the parking lights that come on when the DRL's are on...?
Or maybe I'm just thinking how they are set up in Firebirds...
When you turn the switch to the middle, the rear and dash lights come on and when it is turned all the way to the right, you will also be able to use your high beams.
Even with DRL's, when you turn the switch to the middle, only the parking lights (front and back) and dash lights should be on. Right...? At least that's the way they are set up in my 96 Suburban... Maybe the Camaro is different...
Yes, there is a way to turn off the DRL's just do a search here on the site or check out Brent94Z's website. I think he has the how-to for it...
Later!

The lights autmatically turn on in the dark. I forget what all the settings do on the **** theres the normal setting then theres the manual turn on and the third option does something else retarded. There is no option to turn off the head lights manually. But there is a fix to make it so that you can.
Your sunlight sensor may be defective. It's located on the dash, next the the red light that blinks for the alarm. Shine a flashlight on it while you turn on the car and put the e-brake down. If the headlights stilll go on, the sensor is defective.
Thanks for the replies. The high beams work no matter what setting I have it set on. and no matter what setting I have it set on the parking lights and headlights are on. I will check that sensor tomorrow. anybody have a link to the thread that discusses how to bypass the DRL. I am surfing through my cell phone and searches take forever!!
Thanks,
Mike
Thanks,

I agree that your auto headlight sensor is defective or covered up.
There are several mods you can do...
One involves replacing the sensor in your dash with a resistor. This makes your headlights full manual.
I did my own mod to my car to disable my DRLs, this won't have any effect on your headlight problem, but you might be interested as a side note... It is on one of my pages on my website. I have some mods I put together there on how to disable your DRLs, how to get all 4 headlights on with high beams instead of just 2, and how to get your foglamps to function independent of the headlight functions.
They are all good mods, free/super cheap, and easy.
As for the auto headlight mods, they aren't mine so I don't have them up, but a simple search will dig it up and it is super easy/cheap too.
Good luck
