Is it me: or does 6th Gear have no get up and go?

For normal driving yes, but doube clutching gives a smoother downshift, puts you in the power range for the gear youre going into, and actually puts LESS stress on the tranny and synchros. I double clutch all my downshifts because I'm in the habit of it, and I often drive vehicles that require it (from old trucks to Formula Dodge racecars), better to practice all the time....

I was just wondering- ive heard a lot about double clutching and stuff, what exactly is it? Is it just pushihng the clutch in once, releasing, then pushing it again> and how does it help?

If you need to do so for other vehicles then ok, but downshifting and then easing into the downshifted gear will be just as easy on the motor/tranny. If you want to be real ****, downshift 1 gear at a time until you get to the gear you were going for. But in a hurry, a 6 to 2 drop and go has worked to really get into that powerband, not that i recommend it
...dude I'm running my camaro with a 4.10 in the back, belive me with a 4.10 you'l wish you had 7 gears. But it puts the car in the power curve in 6th doing 80. When you floor it, it hauls ***. Stock gears are nice because in 6th gear with a stock rear you'll put like 350-370 miles on a full tank, all highway, now I get like 280 at most with the 4.10.

Clutch in,
Put car in neutral,
clutch out,
blip throttle,
clutch in,
shift to lower gear,
clutch out...
of course you gotta do that really fast and its not something I reccomend practicing on the highway.... basically it can be described as "rev matching" youre matching the speed of the engine and tranny with the speed of the rear wheels.
I run a modified z28 with 4.10 gears and a cam/longtubes. Believe it or not, I can still probably give some riceburners a run for their money from the 80+ in 6th. It sounds like you are new to manual transmission cars, or at least racing them. I am no expert, but heres the way I look at it. Any time you downshift, so long as you are below redline its fine. However, for racing you want to pick a gear at which you'll be below 5500 but above 4500. You do this because in 3rd gear, 5500-6000 is such a short period of time.. the amount of acceleration you gain would be negated by the time you lost shifting twice in such a short period of time. 5th and 6th gears are not acceleration gears. They are overdrive gears only to cruise on the highway for gas milage. 1-4 are your acceleration gears. This will be your main gears for the track. You want to end your 1/4 mile runs as close to the top of 4th as possible. Using gearing, etc.
BTW: I would suggest at least rev matching downshifts of 6th to 2nd magnitude.. That is ALOT of shock on the drivetrain to throw at it all at once. It more than likely won't break anything immediately, but over a long period of time I'm sure it puts wear on u-joints and things of that nature.
Peace,
