Re: Make me a believer

So... you have had race cars, but you have no idea where to start with this one?

Personally, I would start with the suspension. Drag cars are only as good as their suspension. Other than that, it's just like any other car. Cam, heads, tune, etc.

Firstly, *poke* He's squishy

Secondly, You have not come to the experts in The Lounge, we've all sold our Camaros/Trans-Ams or are in the process

I'd suggest you head to the Drag Section of CZ28.com for input.

Lastly, if you're racing on the street then you're a moron.

Re: Make me a believer

Try the LS1 section of the board... you will get more replies. Also you may get quite a bit of flack if you continue to post like you are a 14yo middle school kid.

You may want to figure out what your goals are and clearly state them. Will you be doing the work yourself? Will you need a shop to do the work for you? Do you have a budget? If so, what is it and does it include labor costs? etc etc...

7.20's in the 1/8th with an auto LS1 is very easy to reach but really that isnt saying much because that doesnt define how you would like to accomplish it...

BTW... Welcome to CZ28

Best advice right there. Welcome to the board. Don't take guys giving you grief about your writing too personally. But the entire website is a written medium, so we try to type and communicate clearly here.

Definitely check out the technical forums, which are more geared towards the questions you're asking. The Lounge here is for non-automotive related discussions (or automotive discussions that don't relate to f-bodies). As for your plan, it all boils down to budget and expertise. The LS1 is quick out of the box and has plenty of potential for drag-racing -- especially with an automatic transmission.

Personally, I'm old enough to where breaking parts frustrates me, so I'd be upgrading the known weak-points of the vehicle before adding power. Replacing the factory 10-bolt rear would be my initial step.

I'll move this to the appropriate technical forum so you can get better replies. Again, welcome to the board.

Re: Make me a believer

Start with the suspension which includes tires. Then full exhaust and a good name brand 4000 rpm stall torque converter. Next would be a good heads/cam/intake package. You should be there.

Re: Make me a believer

If all you want is 7.20s and you want to spray the car, not much needs to be done. Go with a Yank or Precision Industries torque converter, probably 3600rpm since you're spraying it. Don't touch the rear. Replace the stock LS1 intake with a LS6 intake and put on an aftermarket airbox lid. Throw on some 255/50r16 drag radials and hit it with a 150 shot with a proper tune. Easy low 7s all day long and it will drive real nice on the street. Don't do anything stupid and the 10 bolt will live, so will the 4L60E. If you want to go a little quicker (fast is cheap and easy on stock shortblock, this isn't a 5.0), consider a small cam.

AL SS590 M6 - He's already got full exhaust.

It has been stated by people that have them that SLP headers maybe don't work as well as others.
