MAF screen removal for A4 o.k. ?

MAF screen removal for A4 o.k. ?
I know it's a no-no to get ported MAF ends for an a4 car but I was thinking of removing the screen to increase the airflow. Since the sensors are downwind from the screened/unscreened area I'm thinking it will be alright. Anyone had good results with this mod?

Why is doing it to an A4 a no-no? I have done it to my car, and my car is more responsive up in the power band. This is a theory, but resetting your PCM after this mod will let your car adjust to a more free-flowing MAF. Resetting the PCM cant hurt at all, just takes time for the car to re-learn everything. You might smell something unusual first time starting up after the PCM is reset. This is normal.

I have ported maf ends, without the screen of course, I think it added a bit of hp but I was running really lean when I dynoed my car. I don't see a problem with descreening them since the new z06 maf doesn't come with a screen to begin with.

I have read a few posts that say ported MAF ends can cause pressure/shifting problems with the A4 and the explanations as to why this is so were very well explained. How do you reset the PCM anyway? Just disconnect the battery for a few minutes?

How to reset PCM
Reminder: Make sure you have the keys out of the ignition. Why? When you remove the sensors from the air box lid assembly you do not want to start the car. You will set the Service Engine Soon (SES) light. If you do start the car without placing the sensors back in you can easily reset the SES light by following these steps:
1. Turn key to the "on" position but don't start car
2. Pull the PCM BAT and PCM IGN fuses in engine compartment
3. Wait approximately 5 minutes
4. Turn ignition off
5. Replace fuses
6. Start the car and then make sure the light has gone off
