LT1 to LS1 conversion..

hey guys....I recently did a 3.4 to LT1 converstion and I am beginning to think that I should have just gone with the LS1....I could probably only get $5,000 out of my car right now if I were to sell it. Since the LT1 and LS1 use the same tranny/rear end and such and I have the 97 interior which was the same as the interior of the LS1 cars (so the gauges would match)...how much would it cost me if I were to buy an LS1 and drop it in.....what else would I have to swap out and how much do you think I could get for my LT1 to offset some of the cost?

having a ls1 wouldnt make it sell for that much more. I've seen a few 93-97 v6 to ls1 swaps sell on ebay and they never get near what they put in back. I havent even seen one go for as much as a normal 93-97 z28. THe v6 to v8 swap cars dont sell for crap.

Now onto the part on cost to take out what in it now to drop a ls1 in.. I think it would be alot of pointless work and money tossed into the car. Just take the money you are planning on dropping into the ls1 and put it into the lt1. Go with a AI H/C kit, people make well over 420rwhp on the stock bottom ends with ease, alot of the people getting those numbers are even going through shorties. If that wont hold you over then hit it with the jug. Hell i bet you can even turbo the lt1 cheaper then it would be to drop a stock ls1 in it.

yeah I have to agree with above that your probably not going to get the $$ back out of that.. I'd think the only way is if you got an new LS1 motor with no miles on it or maybee looked into a stroker 383 etc., but still money in most likely less than selling dollars... but hey the project is fun

best of luck

There are a LOT more differences than you think. The rear and tranny are not the same. That project would not be worthwhile. You'd be much better off buying a car with an LS1 already in it if that is what you really want. But the best thing to do is keep the LT1 and mod it to suit your needs/desires.

"Owning the hell out of stupid cocky ls1 drivers = priceless"

I love this. Especially when you can do it in a big 4 door, full size LT1 powered car.

yeah, that's what I'm going to do....I just wanted some input on what it would take....it did cost me quite a bit to do my V6 to V8 swap....but it's worth it......LS1 drivers are a bit cocky......my LT1 still tears it up with just a few mods....but the H/C will be coming by next year hopefully.....as well as nitrous....I might put the nitrous on this summer
