Re: LS7 perhaps

i am pretty sure the car has to be 7 or 8 years old for the owner to "buy it back", this is to cut down on bodged repairs. since the vehicle is practically brand new, the insurance company will most likely pay him the value, take the car to their storage lot, then auction it off. to bid in the auction, you would be required to have a salvage license, or a re-builders licence like a body shop would have. then you pay the auction price and tax/ title on the car.

so unless you know someone that has one of those licenses, i doubt you would be able to get your hands on the car even if you had the money.

good luck

Not sure how differant an LT1 engine bay is but the dry sump sytem would probably fit good where the LT1 intake is. Thats a lot of empty space in the LS1s just occupied by some emissions equiptment.

Re: LS7 perhaps

IL, i am an electrical tech at a body shop here in town. we have used our re builder licence a few times the past couple years to buy wrecks and rebuild them into rental cars.

a car like the zo6 will bring a large auction price, so it wont be cheap.

Also, a car worth 70 grand will take quite a bit to total, around here it is usually 70% of vehicle value, but as vehicle price goes up, the insurance companies want to total it goes down.

why pay out $68,000, when they could fix it for $35,000 - $40,000?

the plastic fantastic does appear to be ****ty in an impact, but that is just the body work. the rest of the car is very sound. we repaired a 2003 c5 about a year ago, the whole front end forward of the engine was no longer attached to the car, it looked real bad, but when all the crap was removed, it just needed frame horns, bumper, all the stuff that goes in the hood, hood and the front doors.

needles to say, after about 3 weeks, you couldn't even tell the car had been wrecked.

unless your buddies car is missing the whole side of the car, i would assume they would fix it, unless you run across a retard agent.

do you have pics of the car and the damage?

Re: LS7 perhaps

I live in Jersey. I'm not exactly sure of the insurance laws, so we'll see if they total it. I'm pretty sure they will since the back half looks like it wants to travel in the same direction as the front at the same time.. I know people with the liscenses to go get it back, so that won't be a prob either.

As far as the dry sump system, I'll move the battery to the back and put the sump in place of the battery.

Why do I need to worry about the input shaft if i'm using the 700r4 which will be covered by the torque converter?

You know, typos are one thing, but accidentally typing exactly the opposite of what you meant?
