LS7 clutch kit
I'm getting my clutch replaced and sent my mechanic a link to the cheapest LS7 clutch kit I could find on the internet because I want to upgrade from stock.
Today he called me back and said that, after looking at the specs of the kit, the exact same clutch is marketed under a different name, and that there is one available locally.
I'm not incredibly knowledgeable about clutches, so I wanted to ask you guys if anybody can verify that the GM LS7 clutch kit is sold under a different brand name. I am naturally suspicious...

I understood that, and was prepared to order the GM kit, but he is claiming that he found a kit with identical specs made by Luk.
I did some research and found connections between the LS7 clutch and that company, but never anything concrete that said it was basically the same part. Does anyone have experience with Luk clutches or know for a fact that they make a kit that is identical to the LS7?

Luk clutches are crap.
Anyway, an LS7 clutch is made by GM and nobody else.
Sure, you can find aftermarket clutches, but they aren't GM.
Ram makes some really good clutches. I had a twin disc in my Corvette and a Ram Powergrip HD in my Z28. Both awesome.
It all depends on what your goals are and how driveable you want the car to be.
With the mods you have, all you really need is a factory replacement (LS6). An LS7 would be nice, too.

Luk makes the clutches for GM. Google LS7 clutch, you can buy one for about $400 complete, make sure you replace the slave cylinder at the same time!
Did it. Just finished the break-in period and the clutch is performing great so far. My internet research confirmed the above post that Luk makes the LS7 clutch anyway.
Any specific reason Luk clutches are crap?

GM like many auto manufactures out sources many components to their cars/trucks...I have had mine for 2 1/2 years and put 65,000 miles on my LS7/LS2 clutch/flywheel combo and it has performed great...it is not the clutch for guys that go to the drag strip but it will hold plenty of HP/TQ on a street car and have very good manners while doing it...
