LS1 has an I shaped coolant crossover pipe connected to the heads that runs under the intake. This will not work with the LS6 intake. The LS6 has 2 block off plates that bolt in place of the crossover at the rear of the heads and a single crossover that goes across the front under the throttlebody.

www.LS1howto.com has an install writeup.

The 98 LS1 does not come with an LS6 intake.

However the intake manifold that came on 01+ LS1s and all LS6 engines is the samething. No difference.

They are a good bit better then the LS1 intake that came stock on 98-00 LS1 engines.

Well actually the difference between f-body and y-body LS6 intakes was covered two posts ago, there's a slight difference.

Its the same intake on 01+ LS1 and LS6 engines. Same coolant block off in the rear. It also has a curve on the bottom of the intake. The reason for the block offs.

The one that was different was the 98-00 LS1 intake as it had the coolant pipes that ran to the back. The bottom of this intake is flat so the coolant pipes fit.

Same part# for intake manifold for the 01+ LS1 and LS6 engine.

i could say i got one for free.... it was on the car when i bought it!

not trying to thread-jack, but i have a question about mine.... there is a crack in the top that i can tell was repaired by the previous owner, i want to know if this is going to screw up anytime soon, or if its straight to drive. i have taken her to the track a few times, but i cant afford to break anything.

I doubt you will be flexing the intake or putting pressures through it to cause it to fail.

I assume you've had the car for awhile now. If it was gonna fail it would have already. The intakes get fairly hot. Also if it was failing you would know as in your car would run pretty ****ty.

i mean i have only had it for about 2000 miles, and i havent had any problems yet, even taking it to the track. how long do you think a repair like that will last though before i need a new intake? i can see where it bubbled up when he fixed it, i will post pictures of it when i get a chance.

how long it lasts will be determined by the type and reason for the failure in the first place.

and how it was repaired.

if it was a casting defect in the intake, and he just gooped some JD Weld on the top of it...i would start looking for a new intake

About the only way to break one is a nitrous backfire. I've seen that damage once.
