Ls1 Vette vs ls1 f-body
Re: Ls1 Vette vs ls1 f-body
On looks, in my opinion:
C6 > LS1 Camaro > C5
With an airbox lid ($100) and a catback ($700, and there are less expensive ones), I smoked a stock M6 C5 at the drag strip, 13.3 to his 13.8, and I bogged the launch on that run, pulling a 2.2 60'. I passed him in third gear.
4th gen F-bodies handle great. Better than at least 90% of the cars on the road. C5s handle better, there's no doubt about it, but most peoples handling needs are more than met by an F-body.
Corvettes are "nicer" in a way that is hard to quantify. Let's just say a 2002 Corvette stickered for roughly $20,000 more than a loaded 2002 F-body, and that you get what you pay for.

Re: Ls1 Vette vs ls1 f-body
its basically just the stigma, the name, and the history your paying extra for. the car has many new pieces of technology, and out-performs, but the high price really comes from the fact that GM knows people will still buy it. people will buy it for the stigma of having a Corvette. personally if i wanted a vette it would be at least an ls2, maybe z06, or even c6, so i obviously wouldnt care about money. out of those 2 cars, the Maro would be more worth it. but as said before "apples to oranges" if they werent completely different, GM wouldnt have made them as different cars
Re: Ls1 Vette vs ls1 f-body
Thanks everyone for all the opinions. Looks like I started a small vette vs fbody war lol.
After looking at all the opinions, what's best for me is probably going to be just power so I am going to look at an fbody with an Ls1 on it and spend that extra money on making it a strip car. Probably going to end up with an Lexus Is250 as the daily driver.
thanks for all the comments and help

Re: Ls1 Vette vs ls1 f-body
My biggest reason for getting an LS1 F body instead of an LS1 Vette was the fact that it's nice to have 4 seats instead of two for those times when you need the extra seats. Straight line performance seemed about equal. In additon, at least around here, SS Camaros are a lot more rare than Vettes. The Vettes are becoming like Harleys........they used to be exclusive, but now it seems everyone has one.

You should see the Z28 vs SS or LS1 vs LT1 threads.

Re: Ls1 Vette vs ls1 f-body
I own a 2000 SS and my brother (up until recently owned a 2000 c5 hardtop).
I would definitely take his care over mine because we modded the same and there was hardly any difference in mod price, the IRS is a ton better than the crap rearend that is in my f-body (I'll gladly sacrifice the 10hp it sucks up because that it probably made up in the weight difference).
I can however see that if you wanted to change the gear in the rearend it would be much more expensive and changing a clutch in his car looked like it would be a little more difficult than it was in mine. But other things like changing the intake and spark plugs is easier in the vette, so it is just a trade off.
The interior is also much better looking in my opinion, but as someone mentioned earlier it is only a 2 seater.
They were both about the same speed wise. I had the edge on him because I have the 4:10 gear in my f-body.
Oh and that price seems a little steep. You should be closer to $25k....just my .02

The Vette is a much better car, but was designed for a different purpose and different customer. FWIW, a few suspension mods and sticky tires on a F-body will provide all the handling you could ever use on the street...

I try not to subject anyone to riding in the back of my car unless they absolutely have to.
Re: Ls1 Vette vs ls1 f-body
i think the corvette is an all around beter preformer after driving 3 diffrent generation vetts and 2 diffrent generation camaros i personally like the vetts beter the feel of the car is more solid it handles beter and tires just dont cut it. the biggest thing for me out of the handeling and every thing else is the corvette was just much more solid and built to last both my fbodys have had rust issues thats one problem you will never have with the vett if you plan on keeping this a long long time go with the vett. if its something your just gona toy around with then ditch get the camaro
