I am considering moving up to an Lsx Based car. I test drove tons of couples and sedans but nothing has satisfied the power an F-body gives

Right now there is a 2000 vette at the dealership with 43k miles, they are asking 29.9 but it wouldnt be hard to get them down to 26-27ish.

My quesiton is though, is it worth getting the Ls1 vette over an Ls1 camaro or firebird? An Ls1 camaro/fbody would probably cost me about 10-15k less.

I am pretty new to LsX so not sure what the ls1 vette has over the ls1 camaro/firebird, just wondering if there is something that makes it worth the extra 10-15k lol.

The easy decision would be to go get an LS2 GTO except they are so damn boring looking

the ls1 camaro has the same everything as the corvette minus the body

the corvette has better aerodynamics which will allow it to accelerate faster at higher speeds.

The vette also has IRS which tends to eat up hp to the ground and makes them interesting to launch.

 

The Vette is lighter and handles better, plus stock for stock is the faster car. If money is not at all a problem you should get the Vette, but otherwise you should probably go for the fbody. They are still pretty close in performance to the Vette, especially in a straight line, and you can get one for a lot cheaper, as you mentioned.

 

Power wise they are the same, handling wise the vette is leaps and bounds ahead of the camaro. If you are just looking for power i say f-body, but if you want power and handling i say vette.

Anyway, check out Ebay or Corvetteforum.com for MUCH better prices than that. That is WAY too high.

buy the F-body, and with the money you saved NOT getting the vette, put it into the Camaro and make it faster than a Z06!

 

Vettes are more expensive to mod also, take that into consideration

No matter how much you mod a camaro, it will still only be just a camaro.

I would get the vette. I haven't had an ls1 camaro so I can only compare my vette with my 96 SS and the vette is better in almost every way. The vette wins in terms of power, handling, fewer squeaks/rattles, better build quality and the neat gadgets like heads up display, run flats, the memory seats/mirrors. But all of those gadgets means more things that can break.

Oh yeah, that price is a little high. I bought mine with 53k miles for $22k.

 

I'm sure on a Viper, Porche or Ferrari board there has been someone who said the exact same thing about the Corvette.

If you're comparing a C5 to an LT1 f-body, then hell yes it'll have more power. An Ls1 f-body is a world different from an LT1 in terms of brakes and power. The lighter engine will make it handle better too.





If you want superior handling and braking and don't mind paying more for stuff, get a C5.

If you just want the grunt of a strong engine, are mostly a drag racer, or want to have more $ left after the initial purchase for mods then get an f-body.

 

This is pretty much what it comes down to.

Sure, it will only be a Camaro...a Camaro that'll smoke the hell out of a high-end Corvette! Just think about the possibilities: 10-20G for a real nice F-body compared to 30-50G for a real nice Vette. You take that extra 20 or so Gs and mod out the suspension, wheels and tires, intake, cam, exhaust, etc etc and you will have one badass Camaro. Period.

 

There is no real comparison between the two. Ask anyone who's OWNED both.

 

I have/had 3 LS1 Camaro SS's, a C5 Vette and a C6 Vette at my disposal and I can tell you a vette out classes the Camaro in everyway except for power where they are basically equal. The vette is hands down the better car, but it is a lot more expensive.
I all depends on what you are looking for, the Camaro will save you lots of money for mods and you could make a vette killer(straight line only) out of it.
The vette will have more style and comfort than the Camaro.
You are comparing Apples to Oranges.
