ls1 verts and speed limiters...

Does the ls1 vert have a speed limiter at 115 similar to the v6s? If so, waht is involved with reprogramming/chipping to get rid of it...

Am still debating a vert ls1 or ttop, so help is appreciated.

tks

If the LS1 Camaro came with the z-rated tires the limiter is eiter removed raised to around 164. If the Z came with the 234/55 tires i believe it is set at 123.

Yeah, I don't think 'vert vs. t-top will make a difference? It depends on the original factory tires speed rating as mentioned above. If the car came with Z-rated tires, the limiter is 160-something. Otherwise, I believe it's actually around ~115mph.

To get rid of it, programmers like Hypertech or LS1 Edit will get rid of it. I actually just got my HPP3 yesterday, and there's a setting (although I'm not going to use it?!) for 255 mph!!!! Now who in hell needs to go that fast?!?!?

I've been to around 140 in mine on one or two occasions before I backed out of it due to common sense kicking in...

So it has nothing to do with the drop top

The speed limter depended on the rating of the tires and the spoiler. Convertables that came with the Z-rated tires, have by default the rear integral deck-lid spoiler. This, according to Gm eliminates the speed restrictor. Formulas with the Z-rated tires are supposed to have the same setup. Thats why a lot of guys go after WS6 formulas instead of T/A s. If you really want speed, and you got the cash and can find one a stripped WS6 firehawk hard top would be great.

Uhmm Theres is no such thing as a WS6 Firehawk... WS6 is made by ASC and SLP makes the FireHawk (WU6) unless you meant to have a comma around there somewhere.
... and it makes no difference about the top. I was going over 140 on my SS and the speedo/tach kept climbin higher

WS6, Firehawk nothing more than taking a ram air formula and SLP turning it into a Firehawk.

Origionaly you could not order a Trans am that was a firehawk. In 91-92 they made one. In the begining all Firehawks were Modified formulas. Some of them starting 96' were Formulas with the Ram Air Option Hense the WS6.

I believe GM said the limeter on a Car with the up level spoiler was at 157 mph, but in reality it kicks in somewhere in the 160's.
