Re: LS1 Ticking

sounds like its just piston slap........do a search about it. I got it and so does just about everybody on this board with an LS1. If ur under warranty still i would say try to get an extended warranty like somebody else on this board had done by just bothering GM/chevy about it.

Re: LS1 Ticking

thanks for the input, i thought it might be something a little more serious. My car has 35k on it. Would i still be able to get a extended warranty?

Re: LS1 Ticking

My car has the infamous "LS1 Piston Slap", as well as "LS1 ticking noises" . Even after the motor warms up and the piston slap goes away, the engine still sounds like shyte. It's been like this since brand new, and it now has ~46,000 miles on it. The ticking sounds like loose lifters or rocker arms.....you know the sound that you hear when adjusting the lifters on a hydraulic cam, where you loosen off the rocker arm, then turn in 'til the sound goes away? My LS1 sounds like that X 8 . Oh, but the GM service guy says "that's normal"......

Re: LS1 Ticking

well i went onto the site and i was surprised at the info i read about. But i guess since a lot of people have that same noise on the car, then i guess i'll have to live with it....

Re: LS1 Ticking

When I was shopping for an LS1 T/A I found a nice blue 2001 T/A. I started it up in the middle of February and it didn't have any ticking noise or anything like described as piston slap. Then I found another one and it did have a slight ticking noise but nothing to loud that I wouldn't buy the car because of that. So is it just a nuissance or does it actually effect the performance and life of the engine? Also i have never heard any vette owners complain of the piston slap on their motors.

Re: LS1 Ticking

My LS1 has had piston slap since new and 'ticks' at full operating temp. I'm up to almost 53k miles and no further problems to date (knock on wood) I also lose between 1-1.5 quarts of oil between changes every 3k miles. My friend's 99 Malibu w/ 3.1 V6 also has a slight piston slap at start-up. He's got 125k miles and has had no problems whatsoever with the car since new.
