Ls1 Rev Limiter...

what does the rev limiter on your LS1's kick in at " 6 speed " . Mine kicks in at 58-5900 , and I read that the stock setting is 6200 . I reprogrammed it with hypertech to 6300 adn it still kicks off at 58-59 ..... any input ?

Our tachs aren't known for being the most accurate.

well it didnt change at all when I reprogrammed it with my power tech . If it was not accurate it seems as if it would have climbed at least to 6000 instead of 5800 because i took it from 62 to 63 on the programmer.....Whats yours rev out to ?

I thought the rev limiter kicked in at 6,150 or 6,175.

But, I'm looking at my Helm's manual right now and it says about "Fuel Cutoff Mode" that "To prevent possible engine damage from over-speed, the PCM cuts off fuel from the injectors when the engine speed is above approximately 5800 RPM."

Page 6-1732 under the "Engine Controls - 5.7L" section of my 2001 Helms.

Mine seems to kick in at just over 6,100 rpm's indicated on the tach.

Hook a scan tool up to it and see what it says the rpm's are when it kicks in.

I wouldn't worry to much about raising your rev limiter, cuz for your mods, its not really necessary. You raise it too much and you risk floating the valves.

Once you have some valvetrain mods, then it will help to raise it up without much risk. But also, the Tach's are not very accurate. the stock limit is 6200, and mine would over-rev to 6400 on WOT, until I had it reprogrammed to shift right on 6200.

Don't trust the stock tach. When shifting with my M6 in first, the tach is at ~6100 but the scanner was reading over 6500. Get a scanner and datalog when the rev limiter kicks in and see what the computer says the rpm is. Don't make assumtions on bad info. I would strongly reccomend you leave the stock limiter at 6200 with the stock valvetrain. Anymore and you risk bending pushrods and possibly bent valves.

Sounds good , ill have it hooked up . It does grab second gear real real hard at 4100 rpm's .
