T-top conversion

I recall hering some people talk about T-top conversions, trashing the hard-top of there car and putting T-tops on it. That was at the LT1 message board, and since I am looking to buy an LS1 and this paticular one does not have T-tops ( I really loved those things) I am wondering how hard/ is it possible to do a T-top conversion on these cars.

Thanks!

Todd

I myelf wouldnt ruin a perfectly good hard top car. If you really want t-tops just wait untill you find the car that is exactly what you want. But yes it is doable, lots have done it.

I dont know if this is true, but I heard a rumor that the t top cars have a different windshield support (like the A pillars from the vert) as an added protection in a rollover.

Would make sense, but I dont know if there is truth to this. My t top car rattles a lot... i need some SFC's... but the the SCCA says i am modified... catch 22...

Not true man,the hard-top cars are exactly the same as the T-tops underneath. The conversion is simple and when done looks and acts completely factory. As far as resale goes,it will improve it since it is stock.Who in the general public doesn't like t-tops

Assuming the installer doesnt mess anything up and gets it right the first time. BUT if you dont, your kinda fudged. Besides, is it really worth the risk to chop up a perfectly good hard top car, which arent exactly plentiful to begin with?

I ordered mine hardtop from the factory. After having t-tops and a convertible, I will definately stick with the hardtop but hey maybe that is just me. Anyways Hugger-Orange did this to his car. You might want to post this in the appearance section.

I ordered the hardtop because all my old t-tops leaked RATTLED and personally when you have t-tops off the wind from driving is horrible. I would take a convertible over t-tops. My convertible rattled, creaked. Didn't leak but made every awful noise possible. Plus to me the hardtop looks MUCH better. My hardtop is very quiet compared to any other ones I have had. I have had two hardtops. Funny the guy who has my old 94 z hardtop converted it to t-tops. The only reason I bought the car was for the hardtop. Oh and before I ordered my 00 SS hardtop I was going to buy a 00 t-top z28 but the roadnoise was awful. Like I said, I LOVE my hardtop!!

The underbody is the same on the hardtop vs t-top, but that is where the similarity ends. The doors on my old T-top weighed over 2x what the doors on my hardtop weigh. This is because additional bracing is placed in the door to help structural stability. I'm sure other differences exist as well.

if you want a t-top, look for a t-top car. A converted hardtop will not be as good as the factory origonal.
