Ls1 piston slap, oil consumtion

This is my second LS1 f-body. My first (99 z28, m6, loaded) had no oil consumption, or piston slap problems. This car though, i hear the piston slap for about 20 seconds when i first start it up, then it goes away. It also will burn a quart of oil in about 800 miles. My car is a 2000, and it has 50K on it. I bought it about 4-5 months ago and it had 48K on it. I know it is out of warranty by far, my question is, has anyone had any luck taking a car out of warranty back to gm, and getting this issue fixed? They know, and have known about the problem for a while, but didnt issue a recall for it. If i bitch loud enough, whats the odds they will fix it?
Thanks in advance

Oh yeah i forgot too, i bought one of those junk extended warranties with the car as well, any chance that will cover this problem, or are they going to say abuse or some crap like that. Thanks

It's pretty rare for them to do anything about piston slap even when the car is under warranty. So I don't think your going to have much luck with that. Piston slap at start up isn't something really worth worrying about IMO (I have it sometimes too).

That is quite a bit of oil your burning. If your extended warranty is a after market warranty it would be in the dealers best interest to try to get the warranty company to pay for it.

Thanks for the info....The thing i am worried about is if i mod on top of the stock block, rods, etc. That piston slap has to damage something, even if it is just a little bit. Idk how many people with the start-up piston slap have modded on top of it...just trying to play it safe....thanks again

Mine has always slapped when cold. It's got heads/cam/bolt ons now and runs mid 11s no blow up yet.

Change your PCV valve. When they stick they suck down a lot of oil.

I will change the PCV, thank you for all of the info. Makes me feel a little more confident to mod since someone else has the same issue as me, and had sucess with modding. Thanks again
