Question LS1 or LT1

well i am currently considering trading my 94 trans am off for a 99 trans am. I am really not all that familiar with LS1's. So aer there any problems associated with the LS1 like there are with the lt1's oil leak or any other things i should watch out for.

Is there a great HP diff between the two. i just want all the info i can get cause i dont know if i really want to get a newer one or not...

LS1 is a much stronger engine...LT1 dyno's between 230-250 rwhp on average..and a LS1 dyno's anywhere from 290-320 rwhp..the 305 hp rating is extremely underated. Driven right there should be no problem hitting low 13's, some have even hit 12's bone stock.. as to where a LT1 would run low 14's....maybe high 13's. I never had a LT1 manifold problem on my 97, and havent known anyone yet who had any LS1 problems but a buddy w/ a sticking clutch on his 98, Its a much more efficeient engine then the LT1...Id say LS1 all the way.

I recently traded daily drivers from a bone stock 94' corvette to a bone stock 98'SS ( not anymore) the SS seemed to pull better as well as it was much more fun to drive, no taper at the top of the revs, the car is now modified and oh so much fun.

i have a 98 ls1 and a friend of mine has a lt1 with mods and i smoke him. the ls1's are a far better motor, plus i love it that they are all aluminum. Buy an ls1 and come run with the big dogs.

well, i had a lightly modded LT1 and loved it.. But the ls1 is just so SMOOOTH.. My old car was violent. It would punish you to drive it. The LS1 is very much more refined. So far, I just like it cause it feels about as strong as my LT1. My LT1 was an auto and would eat my LS1's lunch at the track. BUT, with tires, this car might have some fight.. I will know more soon.
I say get the newer car and have fun.But I like the 2002 since its the last year and they have the revisions..

Stock LS1s will run mid 13's all day long. Accleration is abrupt and strong. You'll love it. Problems range from sepentine belts to oil consumption. There was also a bad batch of cats for 2000. Go to www.nhsta.gov to look up service bulliten summaries. Regardless, I can't get enough of that thing.

I've owned two LT1s and now my 99 SS LS1...all I can say is whoa...! The LS1 smokes, you'll love the power. Within weeks I was beating my best times that I had with my modified LT1s. I love it , best car I have ever owned.

i own a '00, M6, LS1 and the only problem(knock on wood) is that it eats some oil if drivin hard. other than that the LS1 is (enter words of approval) ______!!!

edit: since M6's r more prone to oil eatting, i usually NEVER down shift, unless im takin a turn, but if im rollin up to a light or any kind of stop i just take out of gear and coast.

If you don't mind the payments then I'd go with an LS-1. I dropped $1k into my LT-1 and I am running 13.0 @ 107.40 Not too bad.
I am taking my extra money from not having a car payment and I am doing heads and cam. Maybe in two more years when the price comes down I will pick up an LS-1 but I am not letting go of the LT-1
