Re: LS1 Burning oil???

LS1's have small piston skirts and really short pistons, which is one reason they rev and make so much power. But so many are prone to excessive wobbling which causes rings not to seal as well as they should. That's really the bottom line from a local talented LS1 doctor.

Mobil 1 15-50 Ext. syn. will reduce the problem. Just let it warm up for a couple of extra minutes in the winter as it's heavier.

Still not happy, try non synthetic, 20-50 for instance.

If you still are using a lot of oil, try adding a quart of Heavy Duty Lucas or even thick stuff like Rislone to help seal it up. This absolutely works.

Take it from a 3-4 quart per 3k oil change LS1 driver, me. ( SS WITH the LS6 intake and valley that is mentioned in the articles)

It's down to less than a quart now. All the mechanics I talk to don't have any problem with these remedies One uses straight 50 weight race oil. Warms it up for at least 5 minutes though....

Giver her what she needs! Good luck

Lots of contributing factors to the oil consumption. Ring placement, ring tension, PCV issues, etc. Try the Euro-spec Castrol 0w-40w, I've heard that helps with some engines...
