love the tach lag
I finally let the car loose tonight after having my tranny rebuilt and adding a few extra goodies. It feels good. But it doesn't feel good hitting the rev limiter in 1st.
My rev limiter is at 6500. The needle was at 6000-6100 when I nailed it. Lovely.
Is there any way to make the factory tach more accurate? Or am I stuck with getting an ugly aftermarket tach?

It's great isn't it...I've got the same problem but it isn't quite as bad as yours. 1st gear is going to be the worst, 2nd shouldn't be as bad and third, fourth, etc...should be fine. I guess you either live with it (that's what I'm doing) or hack up the dash and throw an AutoMeter in there.
Or...just get a shift light (like a Harlan). You obviously won't have an accurate tach to watch but you will know when to shift and it isn't big and ugly.

Check this out. This would make an awesome alternative to a big nasty monster tach. http://www.lingenfelter.com/lingenfe...35&pf%5Fid=494

just go for a proform shift light...they are a bit bigger than many others but they only cost about $50 and you don't need separate pills to set the rpm...just a dial on the back of the unit.

Could someone tell me why the tachs are so slow to respond in these cars? I really notice mine in neutral when I rev the engine and the rpms are already soaring before the tach responds. I even took it back to the dealer and asked them to fix it. They of course didn't find anything wrong with it and told me that the reason the tach was slow was because it took time for the ECM to process the inputs from the cam and crank sensors. Now I would think that since these inputs are being processed at super fast speeds this would actually increase the acuracy of the reading on the dash - but that's just me. They also told me that the reason the tach is slow is because of the "motion" used by the gauge. It is the same setup used in the Corvette to prolong gauge life by using nice fluid movements of the needle. Anyone else get these explanations from a service dept.?

Factory tach is sluggish, especially in first.
Get you a Matt Harlan shift light. Cheap price, good quality, and fits in the A-Pillar vent. (or you can mount it in the A/C vent, or another location of your choosing)

A friend of mine with the MSD DIS 4 and me with my MSD 6A both have the same problem (although my problem has gone away lately), the damn thing will flash on when you turn it on but sometimes it doesnt flash, it just lights up and stays lit until you shut it off and turn it back on. Ever had this problem? We had to move them onto a toggle so that we didnt have to turn the car on and off everytime it decides to hang.
