Lou's Short Stick Plus Hurst **** Problems

Anyone have this problem? After installing Lou's Short Stick in my car and reinstalling the stock Hurst ****, when I tighten the **** down, it does not line up straight, but at an angle to the right. If I only tighten so that it's straight, it turns easily enough that during hard shifting, it turns in my hand. It's pretty annoying. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem with mine on my Hurst stick too. Just bare down on that SOB and turn it hard.

Be careful that you aren't twisting the leather.

No problem like that with mine.... but a simple solution to your problem is... take your **** and start the thread so the handle points at 6 o'clock... then proceed to tighten back down... that is how mine lined up... Good luck!

The easy way. Drop a washer into the shift **** before you put it on the stick. It will take up some of the space and stop it from going too far to the right. If not enough, add a washer. You may have to experiment with different thickness of washers to get it right. It is NEVER a good idea to force a threaded part into place. Also, the threads ALWAYS start in the same place on both parts. that means that no matter where you start it, they always engage at the same point. I used this method on several shifter and **** combo's over the years, always worked.

Hope you haven't stripped or cracked it yet.

Haven't tried anything yet, will try some of your solutions. Actually thought of the washer thing, just not sure that would work, but will probably try that first. Thanks for all the help.

I have the same damn problem

A friend told me to wrap a small amount of teflon tape around it and the try it. Dont know if that will work , but the washer idea sounds good too.

put a few linches of electric tape around the threads. make sure to have the tape the same direction the handle is tightened
