Looking forward on buying an LS1, A4 or M6?!!?
I'm currently have my 95 LT1, that i'm tired of, and looking forward on buying an LS1?
would it feel like a big diff?
I have an A4 right now, but drive my friend's 98 ws6 M6, and the clutch seems to be kinda hard.
what do you guys think about that?
I currently race at the track, and mabey at the streets..
so, the ques.
A4 vs. M6 for an 01-02 Z28???
and, would i feel a big diff.??
(what would be good for the races???)
P.S. - the 01-02 do come with the LS6 intake, right?
thanks..

Re: Looking forward on buying an LS1, A4 or M6?!!?
Yes 01s and 02s have the ls6 intake. Personally I don't think the Ls1s feel very strong at all. They have most of their power up top, and aren't as torquey as the lt1. My brothers 02 WS6 ran a 12.6 on it's F1s and doesn't feel very impressive, I think they are a little deceptive.
Re: Looking forward on buying an LS1, A4 or M6?!!?
someone just posted a question on the firmness of their clutch on drivtrain forum. Anyway my LT1 was way way more harder to push down than my 01 LS1, My guess is they did something to make i a little easier on the left leg. THe clutch seems a bit more jumpy than my LT1, what I mean is, when I let off of the pedal it instantly grabs right at the end, so it kinda feels like I'm popinmg the clutch in a way as opposed to it engaging real smoothly. I've heard its the Zo6 clutch or something more beefy, so maybe thats the reason.
I love stick shifts, even though I'm always in traffic, so it was a no brainer for me. It as a huge pain to find an LS1 with a stick with everything I wanted like low miles, clean etc. I passed by many many great cars that were priced super cheap, but were autos, which was tempting. Autos to me feel faster as you can just sit back and enjoy the speed, where as a stick you are looking at the tach and consintrating on not missing a shift and such. Of course an auto feels slower until you put some gears and torque convertor in there and then they fly. I think it comes down to personal preference, I think the sticks can fetch slightly higher price since there are so many autos, Make sure you find one that wasn't beat on and taken care of, it really makes a difference in its performance. I took out many of them for a test drive and most were not taken care of, and they all felt slow. I only found two that felt fast, one of which I own now. Ask lots of questions and ask to see any paperwork they have on what was done to the car.
IS it a worthwhile upgrade-Yes they are comin down in price much closer to what LT1 used to fetch. The engine is better, the brakes are better and generaly will have less miles which also means the body will be in better shape(not as many creaks and squeaks). I am very impressed with my LS1 it pulls very hard and I do believe it has just as much low end as the LT1 orvery close to it. I think theLT1 pulls strong at first then dies off fast, where as the LS1 pulls strong then starts pulling even more and continues all the way up, this in itself will make the bottom end feel weaker cause it pulls so strong up top. If in fact the LT1 is more torquey down low, well everything else about the LS1 makes up for that loss, and a set of gears will make it respond better at lower rpms.

Re: Looking forward on buying an LS1, A4 or M6?!!?
I've got both...
I like certain things about both...
If your going to mod the crap out of your car and beat on it I would get the A4 hands down.
If you have A.D.D. while in rush hour traffic, the M6 will entertain your left leg and right arm pretty well.
But in all seriousness, lots of people will probably say the M6 blah blah blah this, blah blah blah that...
My friend is a certified ZR1, Zo6, and Linginfelter mechanic... He has replaced and fixed TONS of M6's from them not holding up to banging gears, and subsequently replaced several motors because the Trany freezed and did bad things to the LS1 drivetrain.
He has however rarely had to work on the A4's...
But another side to me will also say the M6 is FUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And your buds won't give ya crap for it

my '02 is pretty fun.. the driver is what makes the car.. the car has tons of potential out of the box. My clutch is going.. meaning I cant do 3k+ drops anymore... but I do have 46K+ miles on it in 2 years time.. And I drive hard.
I prefer the M6 over the A4 just because my 1995 went through 6 trannies..
the '01-02's have more power all around from what I have seen.
(I have been treed by a friend with an '00 at the track but he lost all of his lead just after the 60 ft mark.. )

Re: Looking forward on buying an LS1, A4 or M6?!!?
so if i put 3.73 on an 01-02 ls1 auto tranny, and get a 3500 stall, it should fell about the same and mabey better than the 6 spd?
i mean, can u still play with the stick downshift and everything, when someone might be interested to play..
?
thanks for the replays guys...
P.S - i drove my friend's 96 ta M6, and it feels pretty good from rolls, stop and everything, but i heard that A4 on LS1's is better or something, and should hold better?!?

Re: Looking forward on buying an LS1, A4 or M6?!!?
Why people think the 98-00 ls-1 cars are so much slower is beyond me. Sure, the 01-02 models have the LS-6 intake, but they have a less aggressive cam. The power output is nearly the same.
Re: Looking forward on buying an LS1, A4 or M6?!!?
it is very hard to find an m6 that hasnt absolutly been beaten to death. i have a 2000 a4 and my cousin has a 2000 m6 and his tranny has let loose 3 times. the a4's are fine until you start making tons of power (dont know exact numbers) and fyi i can pull my cousins m6 from a dig or from a roll.
