Looking to buy a '98 TA for 8 grand

I work at a GM dealership and they traded in a '98 Trans Am friday. M6 t-tops leather, It has 80K miles. Seems to be in very good condition, I did put it on a lift and noticed the pinion seal was leaking. I can get it for $8,000 what do you think I did check all of the fluids and they were all good plus it has a mobil 1 filter and it is completely stock. So it would seem that they took care of it. What do you guys think?

Oh will my catback fit on there????

The pinion seal leak is common and fixable.

I say go for it!

Re: Looking to buy a '98 TA

yeah, I'm thinking its a pretty good deal. Gotta love that M6. I've been reading up on LS1's and do the guys with '98's have any trouble getting their PCM's reprogramed?

no problem with PCM reprogramming. They have different PCM "coding" or whatever but that only matters if you're going to do it yourself, a few guys do PCM reprogramming (PCMfor less and Thunder racing come to mind)

You have a dual cat LT1 car Id imagine the catback would work w/ not a whole lot of tinkering at all if any

Re: Looking to buy a '98 TA

that would be pretty sweet If the loudmouth fit onto the new car..... save me a few hundred dollars. I guess I'll have to look into the LS1 "free mods"

TONY

PS does anyone else think that the stock shifter blows?

Thats a steal of a price for that mileage. Rarely see t/as going for that much, usually camaros.

Seems like a decent deal, and yes, the stock shifter blows. At least get a new stick, if not a whole shifter.

Re: Looking to buy a '98 TA

So I've read that the 98's got a bigger cam then the 99+ and they also had 28lb injectors. So pop on a LS6 intake and headers and it should be the most powerful?

Re: Looking to buy a '98 TA

Theoretically....

a 98-00 with the slightly bigger factory cam + the ls6 intake would get maybe 1-2 1/10's over a stock 01-02.

as it sits 98-00 and 01-02 run just about identically.
