I'd like to know as well, especially if there's any kind of gain from doing so.

Re: ram air - hood baffles removal

im sure there is a gain... i went looking into my hood... and as for a "ram air" affect... it is completely unfunctional... the air has a 1/2 inch space in which it hits 3 flat surfaces head on... and must make 4, 90 degree turns, to make it into the intake.

i was disgusted.

there is a rear baffle (rivoted in like i said) and a front one... that i guess i'll have to drill on or cut somehow... im trying to think of what tool i could go get at loews right now that would help me with this

just curious, are they flush rivets or is the head and/or part of the shaft sticking out? If the head is sticking out at all, you could probably dremel it off with no damage to the hood. If they're flush, you would probably have to bore them out with a drill.

lol ok... well i jumped ahead of you guys and just started cutting off the plastic flaps... just close to wear they connect with the dremel...

one more question

do dremels cut off automatically when they get too hot, or did i just burn my dremel up?

They'll just explode

No worries though, because you get 20 or so of those little discs. I probably went through about 7 of them before I finished cutting out my baffles.

And for those that were wondering, I definately noticed a gain with 60mph+ speeds.

unfortunatly.. im not talking about the discs... those kept breaking. i had another attachment that was PERFECT for the job... i dunno how to describe it tho.

i was half way done with the second baffle... and well, the unit itself quit.

guess i need a new dremel.

so much for being a FREE mod

Maybe you were cutting at too much of an angle if the discs kept breaking. I'm not sure if that was your problem, but I'm pretty sure that was why mine kept breaking. And as far as the dremel, I went out and got a cheap $30 cordless from the store.

I imagine at a discount store with a tool section. I got mine at a Navy Exchange, so I'm not sure if one's available to you
