Do the SLP's REALLY look like that after a while? I thought stainless would keep that metal look to it, rather than turning all brown and nasty.

Well, dangit... I was wanting the QTP headers thinking that they would keep the shiny look to them. I dont see any point getting them if they are just gonna look like the pacesetters in a few months.
Well, yes the SLPs are stainless and they're coated. What happened with those headers is the coating flaked off so that's why they look like that. Also because, the SLPs are 409 SS and the QTPs (Kooks too) are 304 SS (much better quality).
304 SS headers will never look that bad, although they will not keep a real nice shine to them either. They look real pretty when they're new but after a few heat cycles they'll start turning kinda bronze colored (brown but not a dull brown). It's not too bad IMO...not as nice and shiny as coated headers but at least I'll never have to worry about the coating coming off. Most of the time the coating will hold up just fine but sometimes it doesn't.
Since you're thinking about QTPs but you want them to really shine, I'd recommend looking at the Thunder Racing LTs or the PPC LTs. They're basically the same design as the QTPs but they're coated.

I doubt it...but I can't say for sure. I would think that if they were 409 or 304, they'd say so.
If I had to guess, they're probably just 18-gauge steel.
Something I noticed about those headers (the guy acknowledged) is that they were scraped in a couple spots from bottoming out the car. I know I had that happen with my old '81 Z28, so it doesn't bother me that it happens, but are there any brands of headers for 4th-gens that tuck up tighter and don't bottom out like those SLP's do?
I think I heard that Hooker headers tuck up tighter?
Any truth to that?
Thx

. When he said they "cut" really tight, I think he means they "tuck up" tight under the car, close to the floor
