hey guys..ive got a very bad case of piston slap in my 02. 42K on the odo. it seems to be most prominent at 1K to 2K rpm (the beginning of each gear especially 1rst and 2nd) . i run 5.75qts of mobil 1 5W30. i also notice that my gas goes pretty damn quick compared to my old LT1. question is..is there anything i can do to lesson the sound of the slap? thicker oil? anything? also do you think i could be getting bad gas milege bc of bad combustion due to the lack of seal betwen piston and bore? also do you think my PCM is picking up knock, thus retarding my timing bc of this piston slap. my LT1 would pick up crazy knock even with a LT4 KM. all comments and help is appreciated. thankyou

 

I dont think you get piston slap after the car is all warmed up. You might have some kind of knock or a bering problem. just a guess though.

I've only experieced the slap on a few cold mornings.

I really doubt its piston slap.

 

oh its piston slap ..and it sounds terrible even at full op temp. but it runs strong so i figure its not a problem? just annoying to listen to. i want to know though if the PCM is picking up knock or if may have bad combustion/gas loss.

 

The typical piston slap goes away as the engine heats up. Check your push rods.

 

well this isnt your normal piston slap then..ill try and get a small vid of it and rev it slowly from 1 to 2K

 

Is the sound changing when it warms up? Not talking about getting louder or quieter persay, but changing pitch?

 

no sounds like a pop can banging around in my engine

I think thats a little more then piston slap.

piston slap goeas away as the metals heat up and tolerances become tighter. You have some other kind of problem sorry to say. Piston slap is the piston rocking a bit in its bore, doesnt sound like that to me.

Hopefully its an easy fix.......ya never know
