I've Bypassed VATS, Replaced the Starter and Battery....Still has Starting Problems.

For weeks now I knew my VATS was going out. The security light has been on solid everyday while driving and it would take 3 to 5 seconds and sometimes two key turns to start the car.

I bypassed VATS using resistors successfully today, no more light, but the car still takes 3 to 5 seconds to turn over.

I had my battery tested today. Pepboys said it was bad. I bought a new one and it still takes my car a few seconds and sometimes two key turns to turn over.

I then thought it could be the starter. It seem logical at the time. After a quick trip to Autozone an hour later I have a new starter in the car. STILL ...... SAME .... DAMN.... THING...... My car takes a few seconds and sometimes two key turns to turn over.

Once it starts my Camaro has totally normal operation. The ignition system seems to be working fine. I put new plugs and wires in last Fall when I installed my long tubes.

Any clue why it takes my car such a long time and rough time to turn over? I'm lost here.

The car is a 2002 Camaro Z28, 6 -Speed with just bolt-ons (Long tubes, cutout and lid).

Have you checked the ignition switch?

Check the contacts internally in the ignition switch itself that's bolted to the steering column.

That's an interesting idea, you may be onto something. After the I did everything above I turned my key to on (not start) for a few seconds and let the security light go off then fired it up. That was the shortest/best start time I've had today.

Could by fuel pump be going out or fuel filter be ready to swap out?

I do that with my cars every single time, fuel pump/filter/regulator etc all new. still helps start it faster/easier.
