If GM won't do it, someone else will. (Getting new engine)

I purchased the SS from carmax last year. After a few weeks of owning it, I noticed the pinging noise when it was cold. I figured they wouldn't cover it under their extended warranty so I didn't bother.... well, it turns out they DO cover piston slap and if they can prove that it has it, they will fix it. Also, this has nothing to do with oil consumption etc.... If it pings, they'll fix it. I asked them what method they use to fix it and the senior service rep said, they just replace the whole engine.

I will take it in wednesday and I have a few questions:

1) How long will this take?

2) Will the new engine come with a new intake manifold possibly? *crosses fingers for LS6 intake manifold*

3) Will the Odometer reset?

4) How will it affect the value of the car?

They will also fix that annoying noise the tranny makes when I shift it into and out of reverse.

1. It took a month in my case but most are running within two weeks. If they don't have to wait for the engine to be ordered and shipped but have it on the premises waiting to be installed then you are looking at two or three days. They should give you a free loaner car while yours is down.

2. It will be a long block which does not include the intake or exhaust manifolds. You may or may not get a LS6 block but the engine will still be just a LS1.

3. It won't affect the odometer.

4. Unless you sell it immediately it won't really affect the car's resale value.

I dont know man..i'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer..But i can only see the value staying the same or going up. If i was buying an SS and for example the guy says to me "the car has 40K miles..but the engine has 15K on it.." as long as he had all the paper work showing it was legit..i would probably pay more money for that car, than i would for one that has 40K miles on the actual engine...But like i said, sometimes i think of these things differently than other people, but thats just my opinion.
