Re: I finally saw a GMMG and Corsa.

I have corsa which came on my car. It has an amazing sound and the tips look awesome. I got a lot of compliments on how it sounded by pretty much everyone who drove it. It just seemed a little quiet for me. From what i understand it's because i have dual cats and corsa is designed to be quiet at cruising speeds. Well, i got a cut out and i think the corsa still contributes to the overall sound because it is simply amazing. Only gripe is now that i have the cutout, when its closed, the exaust is quiter than it was before it got the cutout installed.

Re: I finally saw a GMMG and Corsa.

anyone a fan of the Mufflex 4" to dual 3.5" ?

the only problem i have with the system is the spintech muffler. i saw a website that compared the spintech muffler to a borla, and i remember it saying it looked like it was made in someone's garage (sloppy welds, & fitment wasn't correct) as opposed to the borla which looked professionally done, and the fitment was right on the money.

here's a vid of it on an SS

the thing i like about it is the dual 3.5" pipes, and oval tips

Thank you very much I appriciate the comment. I'll try my best to get my sisters digital camera that has video recording with sound, and have some GMMG video's. Although I doubt the video will give it justice.

Re: I finally saw a GMMG and Corsa.

The other positive issue with the GMMG is the perfection with which the bends are made and the perfection in fit. As you know, space for the exhaust on a 4th gen is at a premium. The factory thought they needed to squash the pipe down as it goes over the rear axle, but GMMG has the full diameter going over the rear. It's tight, but there is no rubbing or rattling due to the perfection of the angles of the bends. You bolt it on and you are ready to go with almost no "tweaking" necessary. In some cases maybe a tap on the heat shield may be necessary for clearance, but that's about it.

LOL!!!!

3" pipe isn't very impressive, almost every catback does this. Look at Mufflex. They get a 4" pipe over the axel. At stock height mine doesn't rub. It may after I drop it a bit though.

I have the 4" w/spintech. Borlas aren't welded like the spintech. IIRC, the Borla's seems are rolled. Ya, you can see the tacks from the baffles of the ST, but again the Borla is a totally different design and doesn't have baffles. I have yet to see a chambered welded muffler that you couldn't see weld spots on unless they were coated.

The only thing I have against the ST is its aluminized and not stainless. The muffler is the weak link in the Mufflex catbacks since your choices are Flows or Spins both of which are aluminized and everything else is stainless. That and the muffler is about the size of the gas tank. Does sound nice though....

Lookhere ...thats completely stock, I'll agree that its not very loud at idle but it sounds good and CERTAINLY does NOT sound like a V6 w/ flowmaster. if you want a louder idle, open up the y pipe, want more? get headers.... if you STILL think that it sounds bad then maybe you ought to just run open headers or the loudmouth
LOL yes, I'm a GMMG owner, as indicated by my signature (sarcasm), which you obviously didn't read. Having installed dozens of corsa systems, on cars varying in mods, I have to say they sound like total *** on LS1 cars, at any RPM. Longtubes & a cam liven the system up a bit, but it still sounds like junk. The LT1 is a different story altogether. Most exhaust systems sound better on LT1 cars than on LS1 cars, but again, all a matter of preference. Sorry you think my opinion is "wrong," but there are thousands that agree with me-- corsa is a mediocre sounding catback, at best. On a stock car you're better off drilling holes in a stock muffler than shelling out $700 for an average system.

Unless the car is heavily modified, 4" pipe is, at best, not necessary, and at worst, a waste of money and a killer of low end torque. Most of the other brands of 3" cat back systems that I have seen installed needed to be dinged here and there to prevent vibration at various RPM's, vehicle loads or when driving over bumbs in the road. The GMMG was perfect right out of the box. Please keep in mind that everyone has different tastes, expectations, etc. and I'm only relating my experience, not trying to sell anything.

Re: I finally saw a GMMG and Corsa.

My ETs got better so its all good. The 4" system cost me a grand total of $225 installed. I got my whole exhaust system (headers, hi-flo catted Y and catback) plus installation for what just the GMMG costs. I've seen several Magnaflow and Loudmouths and none needed clearancing and both cost about half of the GMMG. Just get a LM and put a chambered stick in the "I" instead of the resonator and you have the sound of the GMMG for much less.

My point was, once you've seen the bus sized pipe snaked over the rear axel, 3" is in no way impressive. Put it to you this way, even muffler shops are suprised it fits.

I have SLP headers Random tech race cats and Corsa. I love the sound and no drone,
BUT I just received my X-pipe and Flo-Pro Twisters, going to have them installed as soon as the snow goes. I plan on using the Corsa tips for a side exit just before the rear wheels.

Cant hardly wait.........................
Here is a pic of looking thru the Twister

Re: I finally saw a GMMG and Corsa.

Jeez!-- My cousin (96' LT1) had a FULL Corsa exhaust, headers back and it was LOUD. I never got a ride in it but it but I think it sounded pretty nice. The tips were cool, round quad tip. It had a slight rasp to it, but I was a little young and didn't have my Z yet so what the hell did I know. Oh, and what do you guys mean by "muffler droan" ?
