Post I finally saw a GMMG and Corsa.

Fellas,

I just wanted to update you all on my hunt for the pefect exhaust set-up for my 01' SS. I heard a Corsa on a bone stock 99' Z28 LS-1 at the Gatornational NHRA drag strip and was very dissapointed. At idle it sounded no different than my old stock GM muffler. Revving the Corsa, sorry guys, but it sounded very weak and whinny like a rice-mobile. I really could not believe what I was hearing and asked him to verify it was a true Corsa, and he did and showed me his paperwork.

The GMMG I saw/heard(in person) in Orlando at Classic Chevy(Worldwide camaro Assoc.). The GMMG was on a 98' SS and the owner, Jim Keliher was nice enough to give me a ride too. I had such high expectations of the GMMG that I was kinda let down somewhat. Look, it sounded very good...... deep, throaty but I was expecting a Flowmaster sound on steroids. In the car at speed I was pleasantly surprised to hear hardly and interior drone. It was wierd but nothing compared to my 80 series Flowmaster muffler. I do get some drone with my Flow but the sound is so great I live with it. After going back home and thinking more about it I now feel my current set up is not bad. But I hate the ugly brown color the develops on the right side of the Flowmaster mufflers. So, I'm still undecided. I may just paint my Flowmaster 80-series muffler on the car with a high temp. spray paint and add some beefier, bigger chrome tips.

Pretty much no exhuasts give you a high amount of muffler drone on the f-bodys. Thats b/c the muffler is at the back, unlike mustangs in which you are sitting on them. I have got borla with no plate and the only time it gets somewhat loud is when i have my back seat folded down and the well flap folded. Plus the LS1 seems to be quiet when compared to LT1's and others.

Get a loudmouth if you want drone. With my A4 and 2.73's at 68 - 72 mph on the highway it can get pretty annoying.

I was thinking the same thing. The 80 Series Flowmaster might not really improve the flow any over my stock WS6 exhaust, but it sounds a HELLUVA lot better. The shop that put it on for me made sure to spray the welds and stuff to keep it looking better for longer. The way I see it, if I want better flow, I'll get a cutout. For now, I got great sound at a great price... and that's good enough for me.

This topic is way to subjective. For myself, I love my Corsa. I know for a fact it sure doesn't sound stock! I'm sure there are plenty of poeple on here to back me up. This board is how I got turned on to Corsa, and to those people, thank you so much! What I like about it so much is that it doesn't sound, and look, like every other camaro out there.

I made up my mind a long time ago to go with the Hooker Longtubes into the GMMG Chambered system.

www.gmmginc.net - Click on Chambered Exhaust and listen to the Blackbird they are pulling off the trailer - NOTHING beats that sound!

BlackHawk T/A........

Keep in mind that "Blackbird" on GMMG's site is highly modified. She's got a 454, big cam, headers, etc. That's why it sounds so great. GMMG should be completely honest and state in print under the Blackbird sound bite that IT IS NOT A STOCK LS-1. However Matt Murphy(GMMG owner) did tell me the red SS is mostly stock with minor mods.

I know the Blackbird is modified with heads/cam/headers etc but are you sure its a 454? I swore it was a beefed up LS1. Besides, that exhaust system still sounds really good even without modifications.

Have you considered true duals?
I just got them on my SS and am pretty happy with the setup. It provides a nice rumble during idle and lower RPM's, and a powerful sound, with a slight crackle when you give it gas. Typically, you have a decent size selection of tips to choose from as well.

That's too bad that you thought that of the Corsa. On a stock setup I will admit that it is very quiet. When you mod it up even with as little as long tubes you get a much different tone. Same could be said of any system, but the Corsa really wakes up.

This is a track footage, note one thing you CANNOT hear the Mustang in the other lane.

Track Footage

Add a cam to it with some long tubes and you've got a pretty damn good sound.

This was the dyno pull I did at ARE. It's in a concrete room so it's not that great.
Dyno Pull

One last thing, I gave my buddy a small taste on the freeway last weekend. He was in a Saleen S281 Mustang next to me. Besides the fact that it was over when it started, as soon as the car inched up to his door the sound at WOT was so loud they had to cover their ears, no joke.

Keep in mind, many systems will sound much better after a set of long tubes. Depending on what you're going to do, go out and listen to some of those as well.

The 435 hp BlackBird has the stage II package which is headers, heads, and a cam. The cam and the headers give that BlackBird a meaner, deeper kinda rough sound. That BlackBird still has a LS1 in it, and NOT a 454!

Cool idea , but no.

Here's some more video clips of the GMMG.

Wow, blew me away, this is how I want my SS to sound. Being nearly 100% ignorant about these things, can you tell me in detail what you have done, what products, and the approximate cost? If I can't figure it out then I have some very knowledgable male friends who should be able help me out, too. Thanks, this sounds great!!! BTW, exactly HOW quiet is the Corsa by itself? ANY louder than my stock set-up is now?

That Corsa is really really loud, but I prefer the sound of that Blackhawk with the GMMG. With a good cam and headers, I think that is the best sounding system ever.
