Question How "smart" are our PCM's ?

I had my car dynoed, and noticed 2 things:

1) The HP was lower than I would have expected

2) The A/F mixture is very RICH on the upper end

(This info per Hypertech, BTW - I emailed them. The lower the number, the richer the mixture. Makes sense when you think about it - 14 parts Air to 1 part Fuel {14:1} is leaner than a 12:1 mixture.)

In any case, I have free ram air & love to floorborad the car @ 70 for the kickdown & the rush of acceleration helped by the FRA.

So, the question is could my computer have learned that WOT = a leaner condition (due to increased air flow while moving ) & made an adjustment to the lookup tables to fatten the mixture ?

At a standstill (ala the dyno ) this would cause a rich condition & may have affected my peak HP output.

??????????????????????

Here's my post about this in case you wanna see my weak azz #'s.

Thanks !!

from what i can see your numbers aren't off by much if you have no mods except the hypertech i would ditch the hypercrap and try again no offense but the hypertech is worthless not worth the plastic it's made out of.

Plus FRA, TPS, EGR , 2800 Stall, MTI lid, K & N , & the fan settings optimized for the 195 thermostat.

So there are a few goodies on there !

The prior owner had dynoed it @ MTI and got 316 - I would have been happy w/ that.

Trick is, I don't know what was on the car when that number came about, nor do I know how much power a stall converter really takes out of the system.

I may have to try it agin w/o the HPP3 power programming on , but still am curious as to the system IQ !

Thanks !

our computers don't really have an iq they just do what they are programed to do no "thinking" involved.

since when do computers think? hehe

they do run a closed loop feedback system.. although I think at WOT it switches over to open loop?

Maybe someone that actually knows a bit about the comptuers can answer this,.
