I've read other posts that say changing synthetics more often is a waste of $$. I've done this w/o any problems. But now you guys have me wondering if more frequent changes are needed
Ditto but 5,000/2,500

well, one way to find out is to take an oil sample and have oil analysis done at about 2K, 4K and 6K miles.. if the results are good, then you will know you are safe still.. I personally am going to be pushing the 10K.. mainly cause even though my oil comes out black I know that its still doing its job.. maybe not as good as day one.. but still good enough that its not building crap up..
Thanks for the info:

is it true that you can't tell how clean or effective a synthetic oil is by looking at the color?
i remember someone posting that a while ago. was it you Patman?

If you are changing synthetic oil in less than 5k miles you are wasting your money. That is the biggest advantage to using synthetics. If I was going to change oil every 3k I'd stick with dino oil.

Here is my 2 cents

A) My '99 tells me when to change the oil. The great minds at GM used a AC Delco filter for this and so do I.

B) Have not had a problem with oil breakdown in a modern fuel Injected car. (run to lean) Now my '75 with a Holly can breakdown oil fast. (runs rich and extra fuel)

C) The filter is the weak link for measuring oil changes in a modern car. The worst thing to happen is going in to by-pass mode. (unfiltered oil, ask a 4.3 owner)

D) In a good old Iron block 350 any darn oil will work for 3,000 miles and better oils longer. (filter again)

E) With all the problems with aluminum LS1 engines please at least use a synthetic blend. Flows and regulates heat better.

F) I personaly feel 3000 miles is a scam in a modern car.
