How hard to change plugs and wires on LS1?

Wanted to do new wires and plugs soon and was curious on how hard it actually was on the LS1? I remember on my 95 TA a shop wanted to charge like $600 for a full tune up..... Anything else you should suggest changing once i go on in there. Plus opinions on what plugs/wires to go with?

Speak for yourself, The driverside was easy as cake but the passenger side, #6 Plug was a crap shoot, #8 though was easy from the bottom...

Not hard to do, just a little time consuming especially the first time you do it. Definitely not worth paying someone else $600 to do it. Take your time, prepare for bruises and cuts because they will happen. And yes the #8 plug will be a PITA, take your time, go from underneath. http://www.installuniversity.com/ins...sity/index.htm That link has a write up on how to do it. On the left hand side click on Install Documents, scroll down to the Engine section and there is a link for Spark Plug and Wire Swap. Helped me the first time I did it. Good luck. Oh, and I went with NGK plugs as well.

If your left fore-arm isn't too big (you know, if you're not the 'roid-rage type ) then you can pull all the plug wires, up to and including #8 from up top (I'm talking about on the passenger's side). Plugs 2, 4, and 6 will also come out from up top "easily" . #8 plug (and plug boot) are best done from underneath. I just recently had to change the exhaust gasket on that side (forgot to re-snug headers ... blew the gasket ) and I tried doing EVERYTHING from up top. I *thought* I did really well, until I road tested the car, was getting EXTREMELY bad "popping / banging" noises out the exhaust, realized the engine had a bad miss, and it was because #8 plug boot wasn't fully down onto the plug! (had to jack it up and push it on properly from underneath ).

Realistically, especially considering it's your first LS1 plug/wire swap, I'd plan on ~2 hours, although you could be done in about ~1hr if you're quick. 20 minutes?????? Sorry, but this isn't a 1st/2nd/3rd-gen you're working on!!!

I needed 90min for the first time.....
remove the A.I.R. pipe from the exhaust and you have enough room to work.
I removed the driver side coil rack from the valve cover too....

Plugs: DELCO Iridium (41-985)
wires: Autolite

works great for me!

It took me about 45min to do it when the car was Bone stock ( i have fat hands ). I added headers and cut the time it took by about 15min which ended up being around 30min. Now that i have no A/C or heater core it takes me 15min to change the plugs ( So easy ).

I used Moroso Blue Max wires and Bosch single plats as I dont want to do it every 30K miles.

One thing I will say, it is a lot easier than what people have said..
I made a post about it. Detailing the time.. use the search feature..

I didnt get anything special in the tool dept.. just had to climb on the engine and lay on it..
