how do I get better low end torque in my new WS6?
how do I get better low end torque in my new WS6?
I just bought a 2001 WS6 and it is a big change from my 96SS that I am trying to sell. Anyways I can't help the fact that I am in need for some lower end torque. Any ideas besides a cam just for right now kind of thing
Thanks

Doesn't a LS1 make more torque then an LT1 all over the powerband? I thought it was just the fact that an LT1 has more pronounced torque because of their lack of high end rush that the LS1 has. Either way, unless you want to get into the engine I think a set of 4.10s will give you that pull you want the most.

At 2100 The lt1 is making more torque and around 2800 the LS1 surpasses it bye far and maintains it longer.

A great thing for throttle response though is to get a Lid and K&N and P&P the throttle body. It makes the car "feel" torquier, IMO

Gears.
When you're racing, you're rarely under 2800 RPM anyway.
Other than grear, exhaust, air lid etc etc.
Your best bet would be to work on traction since they're traction limited as they come. More torque is worthless if you can't put it down.

346ci LS1s don't have low-end like LT1s because of head design/flow. The more restrictive the head, the more low-end torque. The more the head flows, the more it pushes the horsepower/torque up into the powerband.
I'd take horsepower over torque anyday. A big gear/converter will eliminate the lack of low-end on a modified (or stock LS1) motor.

I dont know about other peoples LS1 but when I got mine I knew the low low end wasnt going to be as much but after it got moving I could easily tell wich engine had the most tq as it comes on hard in the LS1 once its climbing.

haha very funny LS1
L1t power!!! anyways... i love the feeling of mine I'v driven a 99 02 (Z28 w/ intake-exhaust) and a WS6 w/ exhaust and even though my LT1 is modded heavily it was half the cost and the seat of the pants rush is alot better from lower rpm's

Just messin with ya.But in all fairness, before anymore LT1 guys go off about LS1's not making torque. My car's numbers closest to stock (only mods were a cut EGR and TB-bypass and a ported MAF that was causing detonation) exceed your numbers posted in hp and Tq and that was with them stutting it down at 4800 RPM. On that pull my LS1 made 292.9 hp and 314.2 lb/ft. Think about it, thats on an engine thats running very lean and is being shut down before peak of both torque and HP. At 3k RPM (where the pull starts) I was still above 290 lb/ft. The torque curve was very flat.

The higher the horsepower is the more force applied at an accerated rate. What is important is having your horsepower and torque numbers close.
My Dad's Maserati has 390RWHP/280 torque. It weighs a bit more than my car and --although i have him off the line, in a highway race or a 50 MHP pull....
I GET SMOKED!
