How Do I...

My car started giving me the Oil Change light, and so I got the oil changed. However, the light still comes on for a few minutes upon start-up. Is there a way to tell the car, "Look, you just got your oil changed, so calm down", so that the light stops coming on, or am I a moron, and this is actually a sign that something else is wrong?

There are instructions are in the manual, but all you have to do is turn the car off. no keys no nothing. then hold down the reset button for the tripometer, hold it and dont let go. while holding this down turn the hey to on. youll notice that in the run position the normal lights will be on like check gauges, ses, and the change oil. keep holding the reset button down until the oil change light goes out and youre all set. but like i said, it is in the manual if you still have problems.

Another way to reset the oil light is to: turn your ignition on (but don't start the car), wait til the all the sensor lights have come on and off, then press the gas petal to the floor 3 times. The oil change light will flash 3 times to indicate a reset. This is what GMs quick lube technicians do to reset the light.

Question

Does the 3 gas pedal tap method work for Camaros too? I know that it works for some GM cars, I just didn't know it worked for our cars as well................I'll try that the next time the light comes on in my car! I've always just done what the book says: turn key to "on", then push and hold the trip/oil reset for 12 seconds until the "change oil" light flashes.

My oil light used to never turn off even after holding in the trip odometer it would only turn off until I turned it on the next time. I tried that gas pedal way and the light stayed off!

Wierd thing is my light never flashes. It just goes out. I've never had a problem with it, but I just thought it was wierd how the manual says "hold for 12 seconds and the light will FLASH". Mine never does. It just goes out. I'll try the three pedal push method next time.

Thanks guys for all the responses. You're right, maybe if I wasn't a moron, I'd have bothered to look in the manual! However, I did the 12 second bit and it worked like a charm. Thanks again, fellas(and ladies).
