Another 4L60E question...

Ok, I know alot of people have asked about the not downshifting into 1st from a 10-15mph roll, but the question I did not see answered was this: will a hand-held flash tuner help with that? I am curious, because my car disappointed me today... a newer silverado gunned it, and so did I... just a short lil to-the-speed-limit blip, and I didn't start pulling away until just at the end, and that was quite slowly . No downshift... I know my car will move quicker, just wasn't in the right gear. I will definitely hear about it at work tomorrow (it's a guy I work with). Oh, my car is a 99 Z28 w/ just a flowmaster... otherwise bone stock.

Edit: Mod, please move to drivetrain section, I screwed up... sorry.

Of course. Moving......

Sounds like you have the 2.73 gears and can't select 1st gear manually? If so, you can cut back the plastic tab that is blocking the manual downshift, so you can select 1st. If so, you might want to think about a set of 3.73's..... would really wake the car up.

I can select 1st manually, but didn't... it was just a knee-jerk reaction race to the speed limit... I did start pulling on him a bit, but then let off because of cars ahead... you should have seen the ricer fly-by and subsequent burnout at the next intersection.... but she just felt like she should have downshifted. I don't know much about computer tuning and all that (a 65 chevy truck and a couple old volvos before my current Z28) so was wondering if it had something to do with the comp, cuz trans fluid and all is good (changed a couple months ago right after I got it).

If you were really only rolling 10-15 mph it definitely should have downshifted on its own regardless of gearing. It usually doesnt upshift until about 10-15 at light throttle. If you know someone that has ls1edit or obdIItunercat to adjust/check the upshift downshift points you can modify that stuff, but it doesnt seem right that it wouldnt downshift on its own at that speed.

I dunno. maybe a couple miles past that, but we had just pulled off the stop sign, accelerated regularly, then at the other side he gunned it... and I followed suit.
