Hogh Pitched Noise Coming From LS1 Engine
Hogh Pitched Noise Coming From LS1 Engine
I just bought a 1998 camaro z28 ls1 and when its running a high pitched noise is soming from a part of the engine, not the engine itself but one of the parts attatched to it. Any ideas?

Might be something else then. To see if it's the pump pull the "AIR PUMP" fuse while it's making the noise, that will immediately disable it. Be careful, use insulated needle nose plyers, mines a small 30 AMP fuse under the hood.

Does it do it all the time. I think I have the same problem. Its kind of sound like a popping sound, high pitched. I just figured it was because I installed a new lid. Because it doesnt do it all the time, and when it does, it stop after a short drive.
I have a 2000 camaro ss.

Its most likely the AIR pump. It whines at start up and under heavy load.. it pushes cool fresh air into ur exhaust manifold.. its basically for your cats and for emission. Its not a bad noise... my friends who drive mustangs (enough said) make fun of me calling it a supercharger. You can remove the whole pump, its basically under your driver side head lamp check. I forget the site but there is site with instruction for removal... but remember that this noise is healthy for your car and removing it will set off codes and burn up your cats.
