Highflow cat and back pressure?

Hello, Well my cat went i got trouble code# P0430 it says that bank 2 cat was below operaten conditions. So that means the cat on the passenger side since bank 1 is where cylinder 1 is and thats on the drivers side.
Now, i have a SLP y pipe so i dont want to do the factory replacement and get the whole y pipe along with the cat for like 250. So i was looking online and found a magnaflow high flow universal cat for around 115.
If i just get 1 highflow cat would that cause alot of back pressure and throw off the PCM? I would do 2 highflows but i plan on getting some pacesetters in the near future and dont want to have a whole lot invested into a setup that i cannot carryover. What do you guys think? Thanks alot

Replacing 1 stock cat w/a high flow? I wouldn't. I've see stock cats go pretty cheap locally. Check around w/other f-body guys. I'm sure someone has one laying around.

If you want highflow cats. Ebay and some other places have universal carsound (parent company of Magnaflow) cats for a little over $50.

Yeah i was concidering the universal ones as well, but the drivers side cat is shaped oddly. So i dont know if a universal one would work there. I also havent seen a highflow cat shaped like the drivers side one either. I am just worried about the 02 sensor bung since it is in the pipe and not the cat. Like i was saying i dont want to dump a whole lot of money into this since i will be upgradeing later on.

Re: Highflow cat and back pressure?

to give you a point of reference this is the passenger side cat and what it includes http://www.car-sound.com/catalog/dir...spx?PartID=504

the drivers side cat http://www.car-sound.com/catalog/dir...spx?PartID=505
is oddly shaped and the o2 sensor bung is built into the end pipe. I am not sure how i would go about replaceing it with a highflow universal cat.

I dont know how well that would work since i need to stay emissions legal right now. I could prob toss a cat on each end off those OR pipes. However, with the stock cats the o2 bung in in the pipe and not the cat itself.

Those are just bolt-ons. You can take them on and off with ease. I know one of those test pipes actually has an 02 hole already in it. When it is time for emissions testing it will take you 30 minutes and you are set!

Since the 2 OEM cats are so different from each other they probably don't flow the same from the factory anyway, so replacing one converter with a high flow isn't gonna kill you. It's not a big deal, since it sounds like you're gonna change the setup in the future anyway.

yeah i was able to get a stock set of cats from BUTCHN (thanks again Butch! ) So that solved my problem. I was thinking the same thing about the cats i mean the drivers side cat is practically under the manifold and the other is about 3 feet back near the mid section of the car.

I plan on going to LT's and that requires a new y-pipe so i was figureing highflows in the future anyway
