Hey guys, Need Opinion for a Car

I can get a 2002 black SS m6, or I can get a 1997 Black Corvette c5 coupe. What would you do? I wanna make a smart decision, so im asking for help.
Thanks

SS

The 97 C5 was a new design and could have issues that were worked out in later year models. Plus, everybody has a Vette.

Cool

You didn't specify, but I'm assuming the 'Vette is a 6-speed also?

That's sort of a tough call, but it really depends on what YOU want. Both cars would be good IMO.

2002 SS:
Pro's:
  • newer, probably fewer miles
  • 4 seater option, more storage space
  • warranty
  • just as fast as C5
  • insurance is probably cheaper
Con's
  • not as "classy" as a 'Vette
  • doesn't handle the same
  • probably not the same build quality
  • bad depreciation
1997 C5
Pro's
  • sleek, sexy, sporty!
  • amazing handling
  • image
  • better fit and finish than Camaro
  • holds its value
Con's
  • 6 years old --- probably way higher mileage
  • only 2 seater
  • insurance $$$ ??
  • roughly same price as 2002 SS, but is no faster
Well, that's my $.02.

That is a tough decision, the Camaro is newer.Vettes are awsome. Same power, very different handling,Camaros heavier.

Need more info on miles and condition, priceing. To really comment.Oh yeah did I mention Vettes are awsome

Beware of anybody trying to impress you by saying that their block is an LS6 block. They are blowing smoke. There is no proven benefit to having a different casting mark on the outside of the block. Unless you like the slightly different shade of aluminum. Plus, I've never heard of anyone rebuilding a T56 at 10,000 miles to 'built' specs. Maybe changing the synchros or a shift fork or something. But ask for the shop receipt to prove what they are saying.

Call the insurance company and that may make up your mind for you. Mom may be buying the car but you'll have to live with the ins. down the road. The older Vette may be way cheaper for ins. than a new SS.

Exclamation

Built tranny? What do you mean by that? That the owner trashed a T56 in 10K miles? If so, I'd definetely stay away from it.

Unless mom is paying for your insurance, too, I think that should be a factor to consider, too. Older Vette might actually be cheaper.

It is 6+ years old already, though. Look around and you'll find even 00's in the 23-25K price range.

But, given the choice between an 02 SS and a 97 Vette, I'd personally choose the SS, definetely.

Later!

I have an '00Z, and I have been looking at a '97 C5. The vette is still a little more to insure. The accident and claim rates are higher for the camaros, but the fact that a vette is more expensive makes up the difference and more.
