Brake Pads

I just got new rotors and many say that I should replace the pads as well. Can I easily do it myself. I checked out the Install site and it looks easy except for the piston part

So, what brake pads would you reccomend that are fairly cheap? Also, should I replace the pads on all four corners or just the front ones since I only got front rotors? Thanks.

One more thing, can i paint the rotor that is like horizontal because the stock ones are rusted like mad and look like crap. I'm not going to paint anything that makes contact if you know what I mean, just wanna make sure it's safe and what not.

Thanks!!

Clean the rotor with a brake cleaner. Only. This will clean the grease off them and leave no residue. If you can change the rotors you should be able to change the pads too. I havent tried to change the brakes on my 1999 but it looks like yuou will have to pull of the bracket that holds the caliper and on most rear wheel drive caras you will havt to re pack the bearings. Do yourself a favor and find some info first - maybe www.installuniversity.com or the (gasp) library.

Good luck and take your time there things (brakes) will save your life

a big PS, dont forget to torque the lugs to spec , or you stand to warp them again . again it important to torque your lugs with a torque wrench!

Yep, I got me one of those torque wrenches. Whats this about re-packing the bearings? Nothing was said about it on the Install site.

So about the brake pads, are Hawk pads okay? I saw a complete kit for like $140. The GM replacement pads are too much so I wanna get some different ones. Thanks

Forget aboutit, the rears bearing get lube along w/ differential. The front bearings are a sealed bearing hub unit.
When bearings are bad you just replace the unit.
To check the front bearings for"Good" While tire off ground grab tire @ 6:00 & 12:00 apply good pressure in a rocking motion(pullin out pushin in on edges of tire) If there's movement like clunk clunk it time to replace them.
