Re: which heads??
i talked with Nick at VRE and he educated me on some finer workings of cylinder heads.
i think the bigger runner volume of the LS6 heads would hinder your down low performance. the more volume the better the top end power is, but at the expense of low end grunt. combine that with a cam that peaks high could make for a unhappy street setup.
he's got me looking at the ported 5.3L heads, small compression chamber for little more compression and smaller runners for good low end.
just my understanding so far...i'm researching so don't take it as scripture.
what cam did you want to run?

Re: which heads??
Sounds about right. Usually (not always) you sacrifice one for the other....it's compromising between diffrent mods to make it all equal out. ie..drop in an LS6 heads with bigger runners...and a bigger rear end/better valve train to hold the higher RPMS.
I have yet to make a definate decission on my cam specs. I'd like to actually pick a set of heads and have a custom grind made up to those...

Why don't you give Advanced Induction a ring? They are a sponsor here and have proven time and time again that they are one of the best in the business.
Personally, I think that a set of ported LS6 heads will be more than enough for nearly anyone looking to go 9s on motor.
