Head and intake manifold question

On my z28 the intake manifold part number is the same as the 2002 Z06 intake manifold. on the cylinder head there is a 241 cast in the corner and on the scan sticker on the back of the engine it has the letters CHA i believe... What does this mean? do i have a LS6 motor in my car? Where is that long GM part number located on the cylinder head?

Re: Head and intake manifold question

all 01/02 v8 f-bodies came with the LS6 intake. but only a small percentage each year got the LS6 block. something like 10% in 01 and 25% in 02.

the heads are still the same as the LS1 engines, it was the block that was different.

other than that...can't help ya

Re: Head and intake manifold question

but you don't have them...some 01-02's got the block, intake, and oil pump...no the heads nor the cam

Re: Head and intake manifold question

LS6 heads are casting 243. the casting 241 that you have is a stock LS1 head found on 2001 and 2002 F-bodies. there are at least 3 versions of the stock LS1 f-body cylinder head
1998 casting 806
1999-2000 casting 853
2001-2002 casting 241

as has been said you have the LS6 intake
you may have the LS6 block, but just the block not the heads or the cam.

Re: Head and intake manifold question

either way it goes my 02 Z28 is unusually fast for a stock Z28 according to everyone in thes turbo and nitrous 4 bangers that claim they walk all over us, i havent been beatin by a 4 cyl yet, and i outran a 02 A4 SS that had headers and cat back on it. I wish the tracks that are around me were open cause i havent been able to run it. they are closed in my area due to flood damage from a storm that rolled through like 3 months ago... I dont know why but thats what they say. Soon as i get to run it i'll post some times up.

There will always be underachievers and overachievers. Fortunately my car usually seemed to fall into the latter---- but anyway... You would know if you had an ls-6 ENGINE in your car. The difference in blocks is minimal other than better breathing between chambers, and a slightly stronger design, not good for any horsepower. All 01-02 v8 fbodies had the ls6 intake.

When I was stock I beat an A4 02 anniversary SS in my 00 by 2 car lengths at the track, this after he pulled me hard off the line due to my loss of traction. His car only turned 13.9X so you still may be in the normal range of mid to low 13's.

I've raced several turbo 4cyl and some 6cyl cars and have yet to lose also. You'll find most of them are in the low 14 to high 13 sec range, if even that fast. You'll find most of those guys tend to exagerate what their car can do so I wouldn't necessarilly take their word as fact. Don't get me wrong there are some very fast ones, but that isn't the majority. Seriously, if you take a high 15 sec car and put a 150 shot on it, it still isn't going to be running 13's.
