Have you ever heard of this?!?!

Okay i was driving my ss down the highway with the windows down the highway at about 70 with my windows down. All of a sudden the drivers side t top comes of and half of it falls down on my head and shatters and the other half(the part with the lock on it)flew off and hit my car and scratched it up. My question to you guys is what should i do about it. My buddies say i should make chevrolet pay for it(its not under warranty, its a 99), but if not my insurance will pay for it. But I would think chevy would pay for it since it busted on my head, but I don't so lets hear what you guys think. Thanks a lot.

Other people have had this happen. Do a search and you should find it. Next time after you put your T-tops on hit them from the bottom to see if they are secure, then lock them.

Was it locked and it actually broke from the suction from the interior? you said itbroke in pieces. did your head hit it and it shattered? or was it just loose? what actually happened?

Lock the t-tops. The vibration and body twist (from engine torque) works the handle loose. You know what happens next. I'm afraid Chevy won't do a thing for you, but your insurance should. Yours is the first time I've heard of the t-top hitting the head of the driver. Sorry to hear that.

yep, it was locked and fastened. But one of my buddies with a firehawk said the glass may have been cracked or something and the wind from the windows(both of them were rolled down) could have done that too. It was locked still when i picked it up off the highway too. But i think when it was starting to lift off the car, half of the glass fell in and hit me and the other half flew off on to the highway. I was just wondering, I didn't know if there was any type of recall on the 99 ttops or anything like that. Thanks for your guys help.

omg that happend at 70 mph....im keeping my windows up next time i hit 130 hah...that totally sucks...i think there could be some sort of law suit if you cant get the money from chevy or insurance...that could have been really bad if you got glass all over you doing 70 on the highway.

Id try going to chevy first, if you're persistent they might do something. If not just have you insurance take care of it.
