harland sharp rocker arm install problems

when you're installing these things do you have to install spacers until it torques to 22ftlbs within 360 degrees of the roller hitting the valve? if so then thats my problem. otherwise i dont know how to do it and i need a better guide than the ls1 how to on yella terra rockers

Yes you need to be able to turn the bolt 360° after the tip contacts the valve. That gives you the preload on the lifter. And it doesn't have to be exact. If it turns say 450° then you need more shim. If it turns say 280° then you need less shim.
Once you figure out what shim is right for a valve pair then just shim all the others the same.

First thing you should do is to measure for the correct length pushrods. Assuming that you have the correct length pushrods, install the rocker pedastalls flat side down, then the rockers and bolts. If you have ported heads, you should use teflon thread sealer on the intake rocker bolts because the threads will be exposed in the intake runner , which allows oil to leak into the cylinder. Make sure the pushrods are seated in the rocker cups correctly, next with the rockers just snug , turn the engine over by hand until the cylinder is TDC with both valve closed. Now you torque the bolts to 22 ft pounds. Do this on every cylinder and TAKE YOUR TIME !!! If something does not feel right, stop torqing and start over because you can break the rocker bolts if you tighten them too much. When you finish torqing all the rockers, go back and re- torque them to make sure they are all still at 22 ft pounds. Good luck .

i just torqued them down to 22lbs like the instructions told me.

didn't seem to need any shims.

but i'm also not using ported heads.

my heads arent ported either.

If I happened to have damaged the o-ring on the oil pickup tube, would that keep oil pressure from pumping the lifters, therefore causing my problem?

Well I took apart the timing cover again and found out it WAS the oil pump o ring. now I have oil pressure and my lifters pumped up finally. Now my adjustments are all right but the plugs are fouled. I bought new ones, so tomorrow when the battery is all charged up, I`ll get a chance to hear her start up. ..hopefully
