Talking Had my car dynoed today...

...and I have to admit that I am very pleased!!!

297hp and 309lb.ft

This with otherwise stock car except K&N filter and Flowmaster muffler. I'm pretty sure they didn't have any effect whatsoever on my numbers. So, basically a stock car w/45K miles.

Probably would've hit 300+ but it hit the speed governor @ 160mph w/the 2.73's.

Well... Now I have a base line, next in line are SLP lid, SLP IAT and FlowTech cutout. Should be in the 315-320 range, I hope...

Not bad at all, I would be proud of those numbers. I need to get me one of these "LS1's" and see what its all about.

Cool

Thanks!

So, if I estimate it right, I'm somwhere in the ~350hp range at the flywheel, right?

Definately not bad for a stock 2000 A4.

I'm wondering where mine was stock I did close to you (291) with that same mods + lid, but it was rolling on 11 inch rims. Who knows.

Good work and don't let her be stock anymore

I've got a few more mods than you and dynoed a little higher, but according to both my runs, they only took it up to 135 mph. Is there that much difference in the hp/torque curve between 130 and 160? Does it make any difference?

If I remember right what he said, it hit 160mph way before redline, so if I had other gears, he'd most likely have been able to get a couple of more ponies more out of it.

if you look at a gear/rpm calculator, with 2.73's in an A4, you would hit the limiter at about 5800.

Not to be a "purist" but.. you are not stock..
On my car, aftermarket filter lowers my HP reading.. Flowmaster.. well.. that hasnt been proven one way or another...

I dont see an lid (thats the major power getter you are adding) giving you 15 rwhp tho... look for about 308.. thats my guess.. good luck!

No. Lid is definetely not going to give 15hp. But it, together with cutout, I'm at least hoping, will bring the numbers in the 315 range.

Enough bench racing... Once I get the mods in, I'll dyno again and we'll see.

Nice numbers.

Your car is identical to mine on the outside. Black inserts look really good in the rear.

Do you have the 2.73s or 3.23s?

I'm going to put my car on the rollers soon, I'm just wondering which A4 gears will yield the most RWHP.

Thanks!

Somebody actually also made the comment about the black inserts yeterday while at the dyno. It's cool that you don't necessarily see it is a Z28 until close up, but sometimes I wish it could be seen from a distance, too...

I have 2.73's. I haven't examined the dynosheets too closely yet, but to me it looks like it made to peak power somewhere around 5400rpm.

Maybe other gears would've helped...?

I agree. You can't tell it's a Z28 until you're up close. When I bought my car, the previos owner had red Z28 emblems on it, so I immediately got 3 blacks ones are replaced the red ones. They looked too "rice" for my taste. I put the black inserts in my rear lettering because it matches my tint. I see other guys with neon orange or white inserts, but I like stuff on my car to match. Like I said, the black inserts look good. I got mine from Brent Franker for $8.

They usually say A4s lose 20% of their power. So your FWHP should equate to 371.25HP and 386.25TQ. I just divided your Dyno numbers by .8. I think my math is right.

Also, what are those clips on your exhaust tips and does that large fan channel your engine heat away from the car or does it blow air into the engine?

Is it really 20%? I thought it was around 15%. That's what I used when I counted that ~350hp. What ever it is, the thing that matters most to me is the RWHP anyway.

The thing on the tailpipe is the thing to measure the air/fuel ratio, I think... Somebody correct me if I'm wrong.

The fan is mostly for cooling the engine but it probably didn't help much since it was about 104 degrees outside. And even hotter inside. But every little bit helps.

There were also a Neon SRT-4 and a 02 Lightning and you could definetely see the issue of heat soak with forced induction cars. Both of them got the best numbers with first pull.

The guy with the SRT-4 even tried spraying some air from one of those duster cans directly to the intercooler just before the last punch, but didn't help.
